    I think you need to have a look at what's actually out there...what a product is *supposed* to do, and what it actually does are two very different thing. That being said, I'm am pulling these numbers directly off of newegg:

    MLC is generally a little slower, but it has really closed the gap. For a very comparable performance, you can get a MLC SSD that has a *lot* more storage for a lot less. The SUPER TALENT UltraDrive ME (MLC) is the same speed as the fastest SLC drive on newegg.

    @Magister - I didn't include the Optimus Maximus, because from what I've read about it, it's a pain to use. The coolness factor goes down to 0 if it's not usable...

    Just to ride the way of expensive PC, etc... Why not just use the LCD 1080P TV covered in diamonds as the monitor. It is close to $150K in value. Adding that to any PC would make it the most expensive PC out there. End of coversation.

    Below is the PC I would build. The only thing this system needs is one more HDD for extra storage. I believe a 2TB HDD from Western Digital would do that very nicely. Thoughts?

    @Munchkin - That could *possibly* be the coolest case ever...if only the external drive bays weren't coming out of the side of the case! :doh:

    For full tower gamming cases, I like to stick with Cooler Master and Silverstone.

    Also, why Vista? Windows 7 Ultimate is on sale at Amazon.com as we speak.

    And finally, the ASUS Supercomputer offers 2 SAS ports, which are faster than any SSD connected via SATA II port...but you're not taking advantage of them...

    I love ABS products and I like the black interior finish. The case is great and yeah the side drive do suck. Here is another case I was considering.

    XCLIO 2000 Black &Ttitanium Finish -$299.99 - this case has 8 cooling fans....

    Because right now if you buy Vista you get a free upgrade to Windows 7. That is why.

    I didn't realize that the ASUS Supercomputer mobo offerred 2 SAS ports. Instead of going with a 2TB drive the sytem would have 2x HP 411089-B22 300GB at which would add $1699.98 to the system cost above.

It'll probably be much cheaper than anyone else's on here, mainly because I tend to pick stuff that I would end up actually using irrespective of price, so in many cases the component will be nowhere near the top end of the price list.

    Not a bad system at all; in fact it would perfrom almost as fast as the system I built. I have always had an issue when spending excessive amount of money on a computer. A well built and planned out middle of the road PC for $1000-2000 will lag a few seconds or FPS behind a monster PC built using the latest technology.

    Most users would be more than happy with a i7 system that cost around $2000. I know I would love a $2000 PC.

    In fact I have been playing around with building a $1000 PC now for about a week. Some days I am able to have a Nvidia 275, 4GB of 1600 DDR3 Ram, AMD 920 GPU, 21" 1080P monitor, etc... Other days it ends up being ATi 4870 or Nvidia 250 with the AMD 810 or 720 CPU, and 4GB of DDR 1066 RAM.

    It is dependent upon what items you can pick up in a combo that will provide additional savings which can help improve the overall system when you save around $10-20 per an item. Right now on newegg if you buy the AMD 925 you can get the Rosewell 530 Green PSU for free. It is things like this that I look out for when buying components and building my $1000 system. That example right there would allow me to increase the purchase of a GPU, RAM, HDD, etc or if you are pricing everything right you could just consider it a move up from the AMD 810 CPU to the AMD 925 CPU.

    If I had money to throw down on a high end PC this is truly what I would get...

    ANTEC 650 EarthWatts PSU
    FoxConn AM3 790GX Mobo
    AMD 955 CPU
    8GB of DDR3 G. Skill 1600 RAM
    3x Western Digital Black Series 640GB HDD

    This system above would cost roughly $1800 with every component. It isn't a bad system but it could be better. I know I could build a very good i7 system but I prefer AMD as I have had little to no luck with Intel over the years.
