How often do you bathe/shower?

    Precisely!!!

I don't even want to know what the state of your bottoms are that you think you need more cleaning activity on them than a bit of toilet paper after the act and a nice shower once a day or so.

Either that, or you live in countries where bottom-transmitted illnesses are so rampant that this sort of rear-end cleanliness paranoia is somehow justified.

Now, if you just like the feeling of a bidet, then that's a different matter, and all power to you.

At the risk of getting my wrist slapped....there is something a bit kinky about using a bidet.

Anyway, this thread is about baths and showers, not about various bottom cleaning methods

Are you sure you're not related to my auntie? :shake: But sure, if you shower twice a day, you don't really need a bidet unless you use it as an alternative to toilet paper after defecation. A bidet can complement showering and eliminate the need for multiple showers a day, but if you do it anyway (or prefer to shower so often), you probably won't have much use for one. The point that using a bidet is more convenient than having to shower at every instance is obviously lost on you as well. There are also medical benefits to using the bidet that are listed on the page I've linked, but it doesn't seem like anyone dead set against the bidets has bothered to read it.

It's more that I don't believe those medical benefits, given that nobody I have ever met has a bidet, and they're not exactly keeling over from being so unhygenic. I think those medical benefits were written by somebody trying to sell more bidets.

But, I recognise that millions of people have and love bidets, so I accept that there must be something cool about them, but I don't really get it.

I tend to think anyone who points a stream of water at their nether regions for extended periods, several times per day, is not doing so for cleanliness reasons....

Harbourboy, given that you're doing your best not to read anything I've linked or attempt to acknowledge anything posted here, it's hardly surprising that you don't get it.

T2Bruno, no one normally uses a bidet several times per day, or for extended periods...

I personally don't see what's wrong with a Bidet. I actually think it sounds fairly useful, that is if I could get accustomed to the idea of one.. it does seem rather outlandish. I take a shower once a day in the morning (only shampoo my hair every other day, as if I do every day it gets far too annoying to put up). However, as a drummer my lower regions tend to get rather sweaty when I play, doesn't make me dirty but it's just not comfortable and it's a hassle to take a shower after every drumming session. Though I always take a shower after runs or after a two hour+ gig as my whole body is sweaty.

Anywho, Taluntain has a point about ease-of-use of a bidet in certain situations. Plus, it's always important to keep your junk clean so the fairer sex is more enthusiastic. The idea of using a bidet after using the rest room seems sort of silly. But, for general cleaning where a shower is excessive it could be useful, again, if I could get used to the idea. It just seems... odd in practice, because I've never heard of one until now. Then again I'm sure I'd think a bath was just as odd if I had gone my whole life without knowing what one was. I don't know how much taking showers affects your immune system :p but I do know from personal experience too many showers in a short period of time can irritate the scalp. And shower caps are no fun at all, without one even the humid air too often makes my hair become annoying.

P.S. for reference, I'm male, I just have long hair.

Tal, I have read the information linked and posted here, but I still don't buy the argument (from someone who sounds like they have shares in a bidet company) that a bidet is a hygenic necessity, as important as washing your hands (as it says on that Bidet site). I eat food with my hands and touch all sorts of things that other sick people might have touched, so it makes sense to wash my hands. But I don't eat with my bottom, and I'm not like a dog who licks my bottom, so what is the point of taking extra steps to wet and clean my bottom, beyond a few sheets of poo ticket at the time, and a rubadubdub in the shower every now and again.

That's not all it says, though there are only caricatures of the medicinal benefits there, for example hemorrhoid prevention & treatment. And yes, Mr. Bidet's page is a sales pitch, but everything listed there is actually true. Of course, you're free to believe that everyone who uses a bidet does it for no good reason if that makes more sense to you. :shake: As I wrote earlier, if you shower several times a day, you don't really need a bidet in most cases. The cultural difference here is showering or nothing (resulting in a large frequency of showers) vs. showering OR using a bidet (resulting in not having to shower completely every time you need to wash your feet or refresh the lower parts of your body, i.e. having a choice between the shower and the bidet). There are also a dozen other benefits to the bidet, but that's been repeated several times in this thread already so there isn't any point in going over it all again.

I just realized I never put my :2c: in here, so in my on-going objective of increasing my post count:

Daily shower. Usually when I get up, but if its a weekend, and I have grubby chores to do in the morning, I'll wait untile after those chores are done.

And bidets? - no. I use toilet paper. (Tal's earlier post notwithstanding.)

I shower every day - to be precise, at night, some time before I sleep. I would shower when I wake, but I don't have time, and it's nice going to bed feeling clean and comfortable. I think it's an Asian thing to shower at night, btw - all Asian families I know do it, while generally Western families seem to do it at daytime.

I actually feel quite odd if I go a day without showering (which happens sporadically in holidays). I stink, my head gets oily, and my body aches.

Perhaps Tal is secretly a bidet salesman and the whole of SP is one big conspiracy to sell them? :D

    I can't sleep after a shower...it wakes/keeps me up afterwards. Even it's a near-scalding yet relaxing 30 minute shower with a massaging showerhead. :bad:

You're aiming the massaging showerhead at the wrong part of your body.

Weren't we covering this issue, so to speak, in the Random Babble thread? (BTW, I blame Tal for all of this focus on Kit's parts. :D )

I am appalled of the lack of hygiene in the colonies. This is not what we have taught. Our troops are in the wrong place.

I shower every other day, being a lazy kinda guy I don't find myself exerting myself too much so I can get away with...sometimes I need to shower everyday though, just depends I guess. I also started taking baths while I'm at home, since my parents just refitted the bathroom with a MASSIVE bath I can actually lay down properly in, also the best shower ever...I'm spoilt for choice at home! :D

I tend to take an unnecissary amount time in the shower, 20 - 30 minutes, I sleep and sit funny so my shoulders and back muscles get all kinked up...a nice hot shower sorts that out no prob :)

As to this bidet thing, I'll admit to bidet phobia...they just creep me out a little...if it was my own personal one that none else had used ever then maybe I could get on with the idea. But I only ever encounter them in hotels and just can't bring myself to go near them :(
