This may sound outrageous, but is it possible that sorcerers could make viable frontliners? Sorcerers get:

    - Shield

    - Blur

    - Mirror Image

    - Blink

    - Death Armour

    - Fire shields

    - Tensors

I decided to test my hypothesis by letting a 14th level fighter, battle cleric, and sorceress fight amongst themselves. The sorceress owned both the fighter and self-buffed battle cleric, despite having only one third their HP, and a lousy THACO.

Well, if by 'frontliner' you mean part of a battle-line, then I think they're not as good as clerics. When you're fighting low-to-medium threat enemies, you don't want to cast so much spells with short durations:bad:. But when fighting a single powerful monster, then they are unmatched. A sorcX/pal1 is great to stand against the Iron Golems, and keep clerics nearby for healing mainly. When you play in Insane difficulty, the golems deal about 70dmg per hit (punch-punch-death:xx:), but for a sorcerer, it's just another Mirror Image, or it was blinked/blurred, and the golem just missed:grin:.

You forgot Mordy's Sword, takes care of those pesky STR and BAB issues.
