i just completed iwd with a solo fighter and tried soloing the expansion, and it shames me to say that the ennemies here are too tough even for a lvl 27 fighter to be taken by one

did any of you achieve HOW in solo or is it just impossible ?

How is surely beatable with a solo fighter. Burial Isle is the hardest part, but if you have 3 potions of invisibility left you can do it without a single fight. If you want to fight there you can get to the wizard and buy stuff without being noticed first, five allies summoned with the girdle of ogre blood before the battle often help, you can also use the girdle to flee when you're surrounded.

Wow, you completed Icewind Dale with a solo fighter and didn't hit level 30?

Yeah, I found Burial Island to be too hard with a solo fighter; then again, I was also fighting everything in sight. I gave up there and so ended the awesome adventures of Kix.

I did it with a Ranger once (didn't play through Totlm though) and I played a solo halfling thief up to Dragon's Eye (the beginning was hard).

I guess it shouldn't be impossible with a Fighter.

I actually find Dragon's Eye to be the toughest part for a solo fighter. There's just too many unavoidable traps. As soon as you finish Dragon's Eye though, it seems you have enough decent equipment and levels to have a nice breather for a little bit before things start to get difficult again.

I just wanted to point out that I found the game too difficult to solo WITHOUT "Heart of Winter" installed. I reached the maximum level and just wasn't strong enough with a solo fighter to complete the final dungeon of the game.

Since fighters don't gain much after level 15 and HoW improves enemy AI and removes overpowered loot, installing HoW wouldn't have made your game easier.

i even had to uninstall HOW in order to beat yxunomei, otherwise she calls in her minions and you can't escape to the previous level in order to heal

but HOW does make the final battle against poquelin easier and thus doable

What overpowered loot is removed in HoW? I'm new to HoW but somewhat familiar with the game without it.

For some random treasures a few possibilities have been changed.
The most powerful items you cannot get any more are the morningstar of action +4 and and the ring of the warrior thief the pregenerated characters have. You also can't get potions which increase a stat without drawback any more. Some items which could be found at a random loot location can only be found at another random location later in the game since they're considered too powerful compared to other stuff you could find instead.
Since only random item lists at some locations are changed a little you usually won't even notice it if you don't know it, it's even possible that you get exactly the same items at the same locations whether you have HoW installed or not.

You can read the details in Dan Simpson's walkthrough.
