OK, so I finally got to the end of BG1 and am facing the last boss, but is beyond insane. He is immune to everything, has at least 4 attacks per round, his henchmen can cast unlimited spells per round and I have absolutely no way of even touching him.

the game went from being fun to having my bum hole ripped open. How can you even touch these guys without cheating? I assume you have to do something cheap inorder to win, because its not even remotely possible other wise.

    WTF?

I thought the same thing when I first got that far. Took me a while to realise that a combination of the wand of monster summoning and missile weapons was easiest. If you can, try and lure them out one at a time although that can be hard. Load a thief up on potions of invisibility and backstab him a few times is also another good tactic. But yeah, one of the few battles where you really have to use every strategy and spell in order to find what is effective.

I only did BG I as a part of a both game Tutu run a while ago, but while challenging it didn't seem too bad. I tried to separate them, which helped, but in general I'd suggest to go berserk on any spells, wands etc. Plus, missile weapons tended to be good most of the game. Weren't there arrows of biting in the original game? Those things are nasty.

Command Word: Die works on the mage... VERY useful for eliminating him for a round. Also, remember that all you have to do is kill Sarevok (that's all, lol, make it sound easy) and you beat the game. It's a fun challenge I think.

This kinda cheesy way worked for me back in the day: Buff up (haste is a must), then start casting fireballs (or other area effect spells) and throwing multiple potions of explosions near Sarevok & Co. when they are still in the fog of war. This will probably take at least some, if not all of his henchmen out before they can do anything. When Sarevok attacks, use the wand of monster summoning to put enough meat between your party and Sarevok to keep you safe for a while. Use ranged weapons with special ammo (arrows of piercing etc.). Usually Sarevok cuts through summons pretty fast, so repeat summoning or use one party member as a decoy and keep your (hasted) archers firing all the time. Not very epic, but effective.

Arrows of Dispelling. That ought to slow those fast moving guys quite nicely and rip out all their spell enhancements. They're high on those. Get them off. Arrows of dispelling are the best way...

[IMG] I was playing a cowardly Bhaalspawn when I first reached the end.

    Running works wonders :D

I think after the second time I had TotSC so was a higher level which made it easier :hmm:

I didn't use summons. I used four fireballs at the edge of the fog which really weakened everyone. Then webbed the room. The fighters with missile weapons concentrated on Sarevok -- as did the mages using magic missile and melfs. I made sure to hit Samaj with something every round. Do not go after them -- have them come to you.

IIRC having TotSC installed makes Sarevok tougher, so it was probably the fact you were more experienced with the game and had developed additional strategies. I had this with BG2 and IWD comparing my first and second playthroughs, and the more IE games I'd played the easier the next ones became.

Fighting Sarevok for the first time was a nightmare for me. :shake: I think I won by pure luck that time (after a ridiculous amount of reloads, of course).

Since then: Kivan + Wand(s) of Fireballs + any buff I can think of (Haste, etc) and keeping everyone spread out at the entrance of the room. One person runs and triggers the encounter, then runs back. As the others mentioned - use Web, missile attacks, summons if you have any. Usually I just kill Sarevok and the mage - I don't think I've ever managed to kill all opponents.

Of course, there is the ultimate cheese of Otiluke's Resilient Sphere.
If you lure Sarevok to chase your (hasted) character across the room (into the range of the rest of the party equiped with spells and missile weapons) and time the sphere right, he'll be pommeling away at your sphered character (not necessarily PC, pure melee ones are good picks, too) for a brief period of time, giving you the opportunity to hit him with everything you've got, in terms of missile weapons, magic missiles, spells or to swarm him with summons if that is your preference. Summons work wonders here for distracting both him and the mage (even more the mage :p ).
This is not a bad strategy, except for being quite cheesy.

(The initial removal of traps is useful, but you can take your chances and play on sheer dumb luck, for your char to make it through in one peace.)

Oh yeah Sarevok. The toughest fight I've ever had in any IE game. I can't recall exactly what the fuss I did to finally take him down back then waaay back when I first played the game, just that it took my a gazillion reloads .
The few times besides the first that I've managed to make my way through the entire game I think I've just relied on summons. To be honest a little cheese is justifiable since he is so insanely tough compared to any other fight (besides maybe that demon fight in TotSC).

I refrained from using the wands of summoning because I felt they were too cheesy... BUT, I did cast an insane amount of summoning spells and scrolls :D

First playthrough was the cowardly cleric.
Second was a Paladin, he was fun.
    Third time was Druid...
Never really been one for tactics. Party of mostly Druids was fun though, I never really found Sarevok particularly tough. Longest battle I've had in an IE game was with Icasaracht in HoW which lasted three hours :xx:

I play purely RP builds in all games though, so nothing is ever particularly easy either

Thanks all, I whooped him.....after several reloads.

I didnt have to cheat, but I did have to get cheap. I fired fireballs with them just out of vision and his 3 henchmen died. After that I cast haste, aid, and bless on my main character, gave him all the AC/slashing protection he could wear and beat em down.

I beat him on the first try, cheaply I must admit. I remember just swamping the room with summons and hitting him with missles from afar.

I don't remember the first time I fought Sarevok. I do remember it took 2 tries though and a wand of summoning.

Yeah, I too used the wand a few time round, and someone told me I was using cheesy tactics! :(

Doing it the other way was waaay harder. Sare packs quite the punch.
But I managed it with 3 of my party of 6 dead!

[IMG] I read Sare as Sarah

I think I've only used the wand once, again with cowardly character. Otherwise I don't tend to utilise summons that effectively, never been that good with them personally.

i recall making my solo warrior run from right to left while throwing arrows at sarevok, and it worked pretty well although it may seem cheap, honestly i would've rather slice him whit spider bane

I dont see why using the wand of summoning is considered cheap or cheesy. The game designers intentionall put it in there to be used so why not use it? Surely it cant be put in the same category as modifying a save game to give yourself the best equipment and stats or using cheat keys...
