    Hiya

I was just wondering, do all of you export characters in to play HoF? Everybody I've spoken to seems to and I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only person who plays it throgh with a brand new party!

Since there's no challenge with a high level party, I also prefer starting HoF mode from scratch. I started with a party of 4 and with a solo druid, but stopped after she had reached level 30.

Pfft. HoF isn't that fun to be honest.

Considering all the monsters are all souped up, you can just summon some meat shields on steroids to do EVERYTHING. So yeah, starting with a party from scratch would be super boring. Instead of making simple goblins do like 30 damage per hit, they should have improved the AI

I guess it's OK if you import your end-game party, seeing as how they'll be around level 15-16ish. I just like collecting the crazy powerful items :D

[IMG] I play all IWD games on HoF mode, always from scratch, just something to do really :rolling:

    I like shiny surprise items!

I just started up a HoF game with my party from normal mode. A single goblin was worth about 270xp. If you start from SCRATCH, how much would it be?

One is worth 3200 exp when you're level one.

I played the prologue from scratch yesterday, and actually the sorcerer did almost all the work. In fact, sorcerer might as well have soloed it all, but I wanted to make a party anyways.

I don't know how other people do this, but I "wasted" a level one and two spell slot on the "summon monster" spells, which are able to beat the goblins when they're in small numbers. That warehouse is a bit tricky, but by then you should have invisibility to simply vanish from the goblins, appear somewhere else to summon new monsters (level 2 spell) or go resting. Once you get summon undead, the rest is a piece of cake. =)
I haven't tried past the dialogue yet, but I don't think the orc archers and things like that stand up against the boneguard undead. But it makes the game a bit boring, just watching the undead clear the map.

3200xp from ONE goblin... That means you'll hit like level 5 before you even make it up to the town

[IMG] Yup, it makes me feel justified for levelling people slowly in P&P games :spin:

I just love the thought of hitting a third of the level cap in the prologue

Well, if you're playing it THIS way, how long does it take to feel as if you're playing it normally? ie, how long before you reach around level 16-17?

[IMG] You guys scoff at HoF mode, but the only tactic you're using is meat shields. So you're basically ruining you're own game by exploiting the AI's weakness. Did you know that the level 3 cleric spell Animate Dead was intended to be an Evil-only spell? It says so in the manual, page 76. :oPerhaps you're just abusing a coding error...

If you install the newest Tactics4IWD2, your summons start at Near Death (only in HoF, as do the enemies'), so you need to Heal or Mass Heal them. :DThat'll keep you from pulling the summon card in every battle! Does that sound more like a challenge?

I don't like using summons. I prefer to hit and run where possible and always have a couple of party members on the guardian script

If your summons start at near-death, and you summon an UNDEAD monster, how exactly do you heal them? I thought none of the heal spells worked on undead?

[IMG] Two people mentioned summons. So before you presume we're 'ruining' our games by abandoning tactics, try asking first

Silvershield - levelling varies from game to game, some games I try and avoid as much combat as possible, such as if I play a stealthy party. I don't have access to my saves for now so can't really compare easily.

I prefer slower levelling in P&P games, gives a better sense of achievment and you can see a character evolve in play. It truly annoys me when a DM suddenly decides to up the party level from one to five after a session so they can get the bigger monsters out, or a player who whines they are low level for too long. It's unneccessary.

In regards to IWD2 I have completed it many times, mostly on HoF mode, the small achievments are since lost in the beginning areas and the nature of the game allows for the fact you do not require a character to evolve in play, you can effectively setle into a long combat sequence and develop the character fully as you want whenever you want.

I play IWD2 for fun and just for a laugh, it is too linear to take as a serious gaming experience so I play the way that amuses me most.

You can 'cure' undead with harming spells.

Oh? I didn't think harm spells worked on the undead either? I never try healing my summons anyway, they aren't worth it :)

Are you sure that "Harm" works? I've tried it before thinking it would, but it didn't seem to have any effect.

[IMG] Undead are immune to necromancy, true. But the only healing spell that is necromancy in IWD2, is Raise Dead, the rest is Conjuration. Heal, and Mass Heal especially, become important buff spells in the game:D.
It's handy for me, because I was always reluctant to use my Mass Heal spells, preferring to wait until all 6 of my party members were Near Death, which is pretty dangerous...
