[IMG] With the exception of X-Com, Wing Commander, and some of the early Star Wars games, I've never ventured far from my old school roots in D&D for my gaming entertainment. Last weekend, I saw a preview for Fallout 3, and I thought it looked cool...So I decided to research Fallout 1&2 by buying them on dvd with Fallout: Tactics.

    Wow.

    I mean, wow.

Fallout is 10 years old, and it is AWESOME!!! You can tell, because I used 3 exclamation points. I'm looking forward to finding the water chip and becoming the hero of Vault 13!!! Then I get to try out F2 and Tactics before getting to 3.

Awesome freaking game! I love the stat system! I'm still not very far into it, but it is awesome! Anyway, I just thought I'd share....

Yes, Fallout is so awesome that it's had a separate forum on SP for a while. Which is where this thread is getting moved! :D

If you don't care for graphics Fallout 1 and 2 are the best. I love the graphics but to be honest it must be nostalgia...

The water chip thing was a little anti-climatic...I just walked in and picked it up. No one even challenged me. Maybe if I hadn't fixed their water pump...

To be honest, I only played for the first time this year. Great game. Fallout 2 is even better. Enjoy!

I disagree. The interface is slightly better, it's bigger, but the story is not as good. But that's just my opinion. ;)

I get the water chip, but they send me out into the Wasteland AGAIN?!?!? What an ungrateful bunch of vault dwellers!!!

Awesome game! I found a plasma rifle and got it upgraded by Smitty - it rocks!

It rocks but it makes looting corpses a bit difficult. Heck when it comes to the hard stuff I'm more of a laser man myself. Slightly less effective but deadly in the right hands. Plus cutting your enemies into slices is more civilized than melting their flesh and their bones.

In the original, I was partial to the Red Ryder BB gun. It fired quickly, did a lot of damage, and I never once had to reload during a battle with it. In the original, weapon choice isn't really all that important, anyway. With the right build, you could play the whole game through with just the berreta.

There's something really special about shooting a Death Claw in the eye with a BB gun and watching its head explode.

Of course, melting them into a steaming pile of goo with a plasma rifle is fun too! Now try planting a lit stick of dynamite in someone's pocket using pickpocket skill. Just be sure to get a safe distance away. :outta:

Fallout Tactics came out some years after the original Fallout and Fallout 2, dear friend...

As mentioned on the front page of SP, Fallout 1 is free to download now...it's worth the effort!

There's something even more special about shooting a supermutant in the eye with a turbo plasma rifle to then see half its rump being blown away. Cause and effect are not necessarily making sense in this case.

I think I'm getting ready to end the game. I'm in the basement of the Cathedral about to take on the Master...But I lost Dogmeat in the Military Base. :(

Interesting, I wondered which "path" you'd take. In many of my games I did the Military Base before taking out the Master (there are so many possibilities in Fallout).

It's nice to have kept Dogmeat all this while. He is not equipped to survive in the Military Base, the force fields tend to have that effect on him, I guess Iguana Bob would have made a nice tasty hot dog with the remains.

I lost dogmeat in the Cathedral. I couldn't keep him out of the line of fire in the tight hallways.
