Arrr! This thread remindeth me of the old Cap'n Highliner commercials, which me mates and I parodied mercilessly. An example of our juvenile stupidity follows:

Cap'n Highliner: Arr, have ye ever been out to sea, Billy?

    Billy: No, Cap'n Highliner!

Cap'n: It gets quite lonely up in the Crow's Nest, Billy, that it do. A man has only the seagulls for company. Tell me, Billy, have ye ever seen a grown man naked?

    Billy: NOOOO!

For non-North-Americans, Cap'n Highliner was the mascot for a line of frozen fish sticks. Needless to say, his commercials were normal, but his speech pattern, not to mention his sidekick young Billy, well, the whole advertising campaign was ripe for adolescent mockery.

Aye, ye have the right of it, my Teutonic friend. Such humor be the lowest class there be, but yet it still puts me in mind of me salad days as a 14 year old lad, changing the words of popular songs to make them more perverted, and snorting like a buffalo in heat when the teacher accidently made a double-entendre of sorts.

To be sure, Trellheim, yer question be a good one. Me best guess is that it's because that was the name of the little bastard in the commercials. He was the sort of little sod you just want to smack across the mouth, very hard, and then keelhaul before forcing him to walk his androgynous little butt off the plank.

Aggh, I'd was introducing some of these sea urchins at the office (dpt. Underwater technology at some science institute) to pirate talk. Some of them walked away confused shouting Arrrr and "I'm rubber you're glue".

No, Splunge, that is "Hooker talk". Another example of it is:

"If ya wanna do the roll, ya gotta wear a raincoat. I don't do nuttin wit nobody less'n he wears a raincoat!"

Of course, after a long, lonely voyage at sea, a pirate may end up saying something similar to his bunkmate.
