Worked seven straight days so far... only five more to go!

 

One of the two sisters just discovered an office marvel - corrective tape rollers - and on request I gave her a thorough briefing on the subject, not failing to point out the general principle, proper use and suitable holding angles....

 

What I found utterly dispiriting were the scratches in the paper indicating her futile, previous efforts to make that mystery do its magic.

They don't belong here. They're nice and all, but are simply unsuitable for the job. They're too 'verhuscht' (roughly: disoriented, confused) for that. When they fail comprehending a text they're working on, it's IMO simply because they are already working to capacity in their effort to get a handle on the computer, that alien thing.

 

I lost some of my strains today. Looked long and hard through each and every freezer box and couldn't find them. Considering creating them was several weeks' work, this is not good.

 

My cunning boss has found a solution how to handle the two ladies: She simply said that it is up to the project managers how to best use the man hours at their disposal, and who they man their slots with. So if they want to have them, and still meet their goals, swell. If not, well, there are other and students who do better. That is a very positive step because it rewards good performance. And a shrewd step, because it settles the issue without causing her any work and why should it, after all she delegated it.

Oh, and to my great amusement my boss had to turn down a request to leave early because one of our girls insisted she had an urgent appointment with her hairdresser She was breathing fire

 

That's bad news. I hope you find them soon.

Did you have any reason to take them to a different institute (like to run some tests on them or... )?

Maybe they got mixed up with some other samples, (someone didn't look carefully and packed them with theirs) or maybe someone moved them to a " perfectly logical location" because they needed the space in the freezer box? (That happens with samples in the organic lab here sometimes. Still looking for some denizens of "perfectly logical locations")

 

Thanks Lore. I looked again today and while I didn't find them I did find phage lysates with the mutations in them, meaning that recreating the strains will take a couple of days instead of weeks. I may make multiple stocks this time and leave one in every box in the freezer, much to the annoyance of my coworkers

 

Just finished twelve straight days of work... I figured I'd be safe from that as long as I avoided farms.

 

ARGHH! I absolutely hate customers who want to change plans when the construction is 95% done!!
I've had to make 3 almost 200 mile trips & a 500 mile trip since wednesday because a client decided they wanted to add 4 rooms & almost 2500 sq ft to the construction!
This is AFTER everything has already been built,wired,plumbed,sheet-rocked,painted & inspected.
So now instead of getting a C.O. by next friday it's probably going to be the end of the month!

 

I can sympathise Martaug. My father's an architect and I cannot count the number of times customers changed their minds more than three-quarters of the way through. Naturally this frequently necessitated redrawing all plans from scratch. Not fun when you're talking about 30-storey buildings. Never mind implementing the changes from said plans into an almost-completed building...

 

If it wasn't such a large job i would have told him no. However, this one job will make us as much as all of last year's jobs put together, so . . we compromise & make the changes.

 

I run my own business doing party favours and people tend to change numbers at the last minute. I'm sure people just like being awkward!

 

Please, someone, make that hatefulk old witch in my workplace to keel over and die or retire. Soon. Please.

She wants special treatment. And to make it so, she's being as difficult as possible without being too obvious to gain leverage to get what she wants. The pooey thing is that she'll probably get her way.

 

How is it possible that I missed so much random babbling in so little time. I thought I was being so faithful to this thread. Maybe it is all this hot weather that is making me not want to turn on my computer.

 

I am a nightowl. For a looooong time, my workplace were aboiut 35min away, door-to-door. Heaven. I was to start 9:00 to 9:30. Perfect for me. I could stay up until 1:00, sleep till 7:45 get up and go to work at 8:40. Those were the days ... and I had those long evenings to spend on learning, learning, gaming, spamming and reading, for starters.

A while ago we moved into a new building, which is 55 min door-to-door, and horrors, I am to start at 8:00. That's a devious thing. Now, to get there I have to leave 7:10, and have to get up at 6:15 latest. Which means I have to go to bed at 23:00, practically rather early evening!!!

The shifted work-sleep pattern is really annoying. Yes I am starting to adapt, but when going to bed, I feel like I lose two hours every day.
