A run trough BG1 today. What to patch, what to mod?

I have the game for some while but never made it to Baldurs gate itself. The why is not important. I had a mod installed to let me play whit bg2 interface/grafhics.

What do I need to do to get the most out of it. I run Vista on a semi- high end pc.

Hi there, if I understood correctly you have TuTu, and AFAIK TuTu questions should be posted in ToB forum. I am not playing the moderator here though, and I may be wrong, but I know that they are more than capable of kindly moving topics to right forums, if need be. (hello, good moderator people! how are you feeling today? ;) )

    As for your questions:

You do not need any more patches, however you should have installed the newest patches of both BG 1 and BG2 before installing TuTu. I trust you use Easy TuTu, which is much more user friendly and indeed, 'easy' to install/mod/play with. Latest Easy TuTu version has all the TuTu fixes so you do not need any more patch/fix. You can start modding right now, like I did!

Mods, well, you asked the right guy! :) I just got a fresh Easy TuTu installation with many mods last night! So I think I can help! Let me open my Weidu log file....

BG1 NPC mod is a must to have, you just have to have it, if you only want one mod, this is the one:It makes all the BG1 NPCs as colorful as BG2 ones, by adding lots of banters, interjections, comments, quests and even long, detailed romances! Also get its music mod too. Get these and you will have tons of fun and RP chances with all the colorful BG1 NPCs!

Umm, other than that, Jestey's BG1 Quests mod adds many many interesting and fun little quests with distinct role playing chances. Another must to have! Easy TuTu NPC kits lets you customise NPCs to your tastes, you can make Khalid the violent berserker he was always destined to be! :p

Get 1 pixel productions, it re-introduces BG1 paperdolls which are much more good looking.

Herbs and potions mod allow you to cook some potions cheaply, I did not get it this time as it tends to make game a little easier. Although it costs you an arm and leg, you can also enchant a dagger and staff with this mod, up to +3 and with fire/poison damage too if you are especially lucky. I think it disrupts the BG1 balance where a +2 weapon is a great treasure to have.

G3 Tweak pack is also another neccesity, it adds many ease of use content and cool tweaks.

Hard Times is an interesting mod, which reflects the economical crisis plaguing the Sword Coast to the game, adding realism and increasing the difficulty and reducing the availability of cheap good items in the game...greatly. Your call on this one.

There are few TuTu NPC mods which look interesting too. Finch, Mur Neth and Kindra...although I haven't excessively played with them, BG1 NPCs with BG1 NPC mod are much more interesting and fun to have around, IMHO. Play with these if you are bored of BG1 NPCs.

Ahh, you can get BG1 GUI mod if you prefer the stony, stone-age look of BG1. I personally prefer BG2 ones, everything is much more easier to read and understand in it!

If you were an advanced player I would heartily reccommend Sword Coast Strategems, which makes all fights much more interesting and difficult. It greatly enhanced the artificial intelligence of enemies so they fight much more intelligently and fiercely! Grey Clan:part I is also a very excellent tactical mod which adds many interesting and 'tough' battles, although I heard it has a lite version too, with easier battles. I haven't tried it though so I do not know how easy it is, the normal ones are pretty tough! (and fun)

If you are not an experienced player, stay away from tactical mods, until you feel confident in your gaming skills. Just a bit of friendly advice.

Tutu I remember, nice of you to mention it. None of the games is on my harddrive, I upgrade often.

So what is the installation order when you want to use tutu + mods? I assume you start with installing BG1 + TotSC and then BGII+ToB, and patch them, but what's next? Do you first install the mods you want (mods that are compatible with tutu) in your BG and BGII installation folders, and then install (easy) tutu, or do you install tutu first and then run the mod installations in tutus own folder?

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

This post is basically the bible for order of installs in a Tutu game.

Edit: Rereading what you said I wanted to clarify that you do the mod installs in Tutu's directory.

Sweet, thanks man. I followed the post and now have a seemingly fully working game.
