Ok, I've seen the first two GSC Burst chapters. My first impression is that they're good, but we've got a bit of a retcon on our hands. I mean... Rally being under 20? How of freaking earth... she just celebrated her - iirc - 23rd birthday at the end of the original GSC comic. What's next, she getting a boyfriend?

((the author has disclosed that Rally has a bit of a liking for the fairer sex, but doesn't actually indulge in it. Guns and driving supposedly make a decent surrogate. Schucks.))

Yeah, Deathnote was really great... but...
the story kinda went downhill when L died... but it was still good... just not AS good.

I loved how the cat and mouse game worked, it was brilliant and gripping and sometimes need a re-read to fully understand how they figure some things out.

But the manga is alot more superior to the movies although I prefer the ending in the movie. Haven't watch the animes yet though.

    Here's another update:

Hellsing chapters 88-90: Say what now? Of all the ways to defeat a near-untouchable vampire lord, that takes the cake. That must be the WMD of psychological warfare, I can tell you this much; on the other hand, an attack that becomes the more effective the more souls/lives Alucard has is probably the best way to bring him down - for a time, at least. Yet the question is, what now? The fog is cleared, as it were, and there are few survivors on all sides. The Vatican corps is mostly down, but the Major seems also a bit short... and so does Hellsing, as should go without saying. Deus ex Machina or no, right now Walter could be the fulcrum around which the conflict turns depending on whom he attacks.

Claymore chapter 77: sheesh, finally it comes out. On one hand, I'm a bit disappointed - I would have preferred if the current set of characters had managed to solve the problem using their own skills rather than rely on, as it were, the cavalry. To top it off, Clarice is acting a bit too weird, basically having a nervous breakdown in the middle of the fight. On the other hand... I can't keep that darned smile off my face. The Magnificent Seven is back, and by the looks of things they are going to kick some overly-sensual, overly-confident and overly-naked ass - heck, Miss 47 just warmed up. Would you like fries with B-kicking, Crazerina?

I suppose the two major plots in this arc were supposed to meet at some point, after all. Still, if the Seven felt a bit less like some Deus ex Machina, I think they'd be much more likable.

Just finished Death Note (anime). Just wow. Cried my eyes out twice. Light is just such a b*****d, it's hard to even imagine someone like him as the main character. And L is way too cute  .

But as Faye said before, after
Keyser Söze is Kevin Spacey! ...And L dies, the story does lose something. He is the most interesting character after all.

Waiting for the 17th part of The Blade of the Immortal...

Maybe it has a little too much of gore for gore's sake, but I like the depiction of the characters more than those of Lone Wolf and Cub. There's no legendary heroes beyond comparison in the Balde of the Immortal. The characters are more human that way...

Hmm, Claymore 89 came up recently, and after the hilarious 88 (You cut my hair!) it's a bit... weird. I get the feeling that the plot was basically turned upside down, and in a sense it has. However, the way this was brought up was not the best - it's a bit of a letdown when one of the characters tells you that, by the way, she knew the world-shattering truth for years. Oh, right.

On one hand, this may make things interesting - my favourite characters are out of retirement, as it were, and they're going for the gusto. On the other, I fear it may spell a big role and the unexplained power creep that goes with that for Clarice, whom I hate with a passion. Also, few series manage to keep their focus and quality with such a major transition, so I'm a little worried how well Claymore will do from now on. Then again, so far it has been going quite well - hopefully the new story arc will be done quite well.

I've started watching the Shakugan No Shana Anime. Also started on Death Note and I managed to get the second and third OVA's of Hellsing. Not a bad few months :)

So I saw the first three Deathnote DVDs (12 episodes, I think). Terrible voice acting. Iffy dialogue. Blatant misogyny on the part of the writers.

And yet it's actually pretty entertaining. Go figure.

This applies to many series :) Are you watching subbed or dubbed versions?

Some dubed series lose something in translation. An example it the term "Unrestricted Method" from Shakugan No Shana, refering to a magic spell.
Others lose impact (Bleach *shudder* worst dub ever).

Point of intrest: If it's a DVD then it can be both a Dub and a Sub depending on your choice in the option menu (assuming it's legit, not bootleg or pirated)

Dubbed. I turned on the subtitles and, um....holy crap. The translation was on par with all your base are belong to us. And I'm not exaggerating in the slightest.

Ouch, I see. I've seen some crappy subs, but even then I somehow prefer subs - most dubs seem to intentionally ruin the characters by giving them the worst voiceovers possible.

Anyway, here's a little something that caught my attention - http://youtube.com/watch?v=dGirELuT6po

    Did someone mention Hellsing?
Biggest fanboy here on the boards (self-professed). Manga > Anime, infinitely. Haven't seen OVA, but from the bits I've seen it seems pretty good. Alexander Anderson is definitely awesome in the manga, mmm.

Also, yeah, Akira was great. KANEDAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

I've heard some poor comments about the graphics and sound of the OVA - both were excellent in the TV series - but I want a few more episodes to come out before I checked it.

Hellsing is just über-cool  Actually, Hellsing is so cool he walks up walls. In OVA he is even cooler. On a more general note: A friend of mine remarked that OVA was so much bloodier than the original series, that he dreamt bad. But is is said that it is way closer to the manga (which I haven't read).

My favourites are probably 'Ghost in the Shell' and 'Jin-Roh'. Favourite series is 'Cowboy Bebop', of somewhat poorer quality, but it never fails to get me into a good mood, not to mention the good soundtrack. Another anime that I really like is 'Appleseed', just because of the (literally and more general) smashing opening scene with that tank with the gatling gun. Pretty nice, and also very well made, as well is 'Beautiful Days', wasn't there that eternal death scene at the end (worse than the one in House of Flying Daggers).

The manga is great, it beats the anime hands-down. You can find it on onemange.com and, well, pretty much everywhere. Wanna bet Hirano's a hardcore gamer ? Just read the chapter titles after, say, volume 4 :D . As for cool, yeah, the only thing to come close is Blade of the Immortal.

Gits is good, although I prefer the series (though I'm still unable to watch the second one); the Wolf Brigade is classy, but a bit weird. CB is great, and is up there with Kenshin as one of the classical series imo, not to mention having a soundtrack to rival Noir (that's high praise from me, btw). Then again, when you get Yoko Kanno, what else do you expect? As for Appleseed, I haven't watched it... yet :) Work and gaming leave me little time, and I've already got NGE to watch.

But, you know, I can't help thinking how much I'd love a new series of Slayers... those series were too fun for words. Lina FTW!

I think I haven't, but I don't remember half the stuff I've watched. What was it about?

4 Japanese schoolgirls and their daily lives. The first episode they spend talking about food and how they eat it :)

I've not watched Lucky Star, and judging from your description I'm not really sure I want to... unless there's a twist to it or it's done in a way that makes it more interesting than the description makes it seem :)
