Well the work on Egyptian deities is due today, I hope I'll get a good grade. Thing is, in order to somewhat "fair" my teacher had already chosen a list of them. Each student was assign one at random. This way we wouldn't have only took the most obvious and known ones like; Amon, Ra, Osiris, Isis, etc. Personally I've got Thoth, not too bad. Strange thing is Thoth is actually its Greek name (Θωθ if you can't read it it's theta, omega, theta ) However, I've found that in hieroglyph (another Greek term) his name was actually something like "ḏḥwty". Since Egyptian only wrote consonant much like modern Hebrew, Syriac, or Arabic. I really wonder how "dhwty" came to be Thoth. Did these Greeks had serious listening problem or what?

Anyway.... it's St-Valentine's Day, am I supposed to be happy?

Edit; Oh yeah if anyone's interested I have got a job interview tomorrow in a restaurant, meh I don't really see me as a waiter but I need money so, yeah whatever. I just fear they'll ask me to shave (somewhat acceptable) or cut my hair (absolutely out of the question) Besides my hair isn't that long, I'd say about 20 Cm, or 6-8 cm before my shoulder.

Anyways, I'm currently in a meeting with everyone's good friend, reverend Jack Daniels, so if you have anything to say, please leave a message after the beep.

Happy St. Valentine's day, and a happy Trifon Zarezan!

The latter is not so famous outside of my region; more's the pity. St. Trifon is the patron saint of vine-growers, and by extension everything involving alcohol. Is it surprising those two saints go together ;) ?

Quite possible; or at least the people who wrote it weren't good linguists. You remember where the term "barbarian" supposedly comes from? The Greeks couldn't understand what their neighboring tribes were saying, and it all supposedly sounded like "bar-bar-bar"

    St. Trifon, huh?
My last actual romantic-type valentine was so long ago I shall pass over it in silence. I had a friendly one this year, though.
Bad roads yesterday have improved with steady sunshine today but the forecast high was so far wrong it's laughable.
Happy St. Valentine's and St. Trifon's day, all.

Haha, my friend (who turned 18 the day after me) and I went out and bought cigars just to be carded :D We also bought lottery tickets (didn't win anything, but I don't care).

Now all that's left is to get drafted!

Perhaps, but the Greek word passed into Latin which itself passed into modern English. The word had multiples sound change from one language to another and from within the same language. Thus a completely different word from the original. The Greeks name for Egyptian cities / Gods / everything else, were nothing like the original Egyptian. Also, for all its history these names had little changes. What I ask is why such a prevalence of Hellenistic terms for a civilisation that is quite different from the Greek one?

I actually asked this question to my teacher, she said it was because the Greeks were closer to us, the western civilisation than the Egyptian one. Isn't some kind of "westernism"?

    I just don't understand this.

Oh, and this might be obvious but I'm really tired... maybe I'm just paranoiac. Meh, I still think it's a valid question.

Dad may finally get his truck back from the shop tomorrow morning. I guess that the repair guy didn't like the suggestion that dad would need to borrow his brand new truck to deliver wood and hay this weekend...

Urgh, the virus that I caught on holiday has truly unleashed its hellspawned powers.

Was bedridden on Wednesday, could only manage half a day of work yesterday, and starting to get a bit of fever and the shakes today now, not to mention the cough and runny nose.

Really need this day to end and hope I can drive back safely home and just hibernate for 2 days or so.

Sorry to hear about your strife, Strife. Sometimes the best medicine is sleep and as much water and garlic laced chicken broth as you can hold. Although if this sickness seems to be lasting too long you really should see a doctor.
