After quite a busy and stressy 12 hour shift at work, I've come home, cracked out a crate of Corona and broken out some Marlboro Lights. I've not had a cig since dinner time, and let me tell you.. OH YES! One of the best fags I've ever tasted. Any smoker here will be with me, sometimes a fag and a beer is just the ultimate thing.

Whilst I'm here, what shifts do you guys work? I do 12 hour shifts, but work 1x5 day week and 1x2 day a week, which can fall on weekends/bank holidays, whatever, I work it. It sounds a bit iffy, ut it suits me fine as I get more days off and get paid a shift allowance, which is quite big. It's just great to come hoe on a Sunday night after a pain of a day and relax :).

Please, no self righteous preaching about the fags, each man is allowed his vices ;).

I work rather weird and unpredictible shifts. I had no scheduled shifts this week, but I worked six or seven straight six hour shifts last week. This type of schedule makes it hard to plan ahead, but I don't care, I have no life anyway. :p

Seriously, after a long day, I chill out with some ice-cold caffeine. No booze of fags for me, thanks - I live the straightedge lifestyle, which means no booze, no drugs and no tobacco. Many call this lifestyle boring, but I don't care - I'd rather do something I like then getting wasted.

I'm doing the regular 9AM-6PM, Monday to Friday but usually gets off at around 7PM. Am a non drinking and non smoking by choice. My vices are movies and potato chips. Movies are relatively cheap here, and there's a lot of DVD/VCDs for rent and sale. And can't really get enough of them. Sometimes averaging close to 10 movies in a week, some new some rewatch. That is partly because I don't watch TV and didn't have cable, again by choice. As for the chips, I'm rather concern with the quantity I'm having these past few months. But on weekends, I'm either mt. biking or backpacking.

My vice is pretty much the computer and or a good book and a hot bath. I used to smoke cigarettes a bunch of years ago but I quit, and I'm very happy that I did. One package of cigarettes here cost over $10 Canadian and they are bad for your health to boot. I'd rather spend that money on stuff that doesn't burn up and leave you stinky :D.

I do like to drink once in a while, although it is very seldom these days. A good wine is also very nice for cooking with but for some reason there never seems much to cook with when I put a bottle in my pantry.

I definately agree with DoTW on caffeine. That is something that I cannot live without.

The wife and I work 12 hour shifts overnight from 7pm till 7am - 3 days one week, 4 days the next.

Neither of us smoke. Nasty stuff it is.

As for booze, we don't drink beer...mainly because we live in the US, and it costs too much to get anything that tastes good. We stick with vodka, rum, Jager, and various flavored liquors. They get you drunk a lot quicker, and taste a hell of a lot better going down. :yum: :rolling:

BA - You live in England, and therefore have access to some of the best beer in the world without the ridiculous import/travel issues, and you choose CORONA? Are you mad? That's pee in a bottle.

You can keep the fags, but I'll definitely have some of that beer.

    Hang on... CORONA??!!

On second thought you can keep both :p

Seriously, I agree nothing beats crashing into a comfortable chair and having a drink after a long and/or stressful day. "Simple minds, simple pleasures" ;)

I don't work shifts, which is both a blessing and a curse. I need to be at work whenever my experiment requires me to be there, which means I can have 5-hour days for week, followed by a 72-hour day (my personal record). The latter is not fun, but that's life. The drink at the end of that "day" was memorable!

Job #1 runs 0700-1530, Monday through Friday. Job #2 runs 1700-2300 M-F, then 0700-2300 on the weekends.

I have no time to devote to drinking!

I tell you what mate, if you sometimes work 72 hour days, you definitely need all the rest you can get!

I like Corona, think it is proper gorg, especially with a slice of lime in it, really refreshing. But then I like most stuff that contains alcohol. There are better beers over here though, definitely! Corona was what was in the fridge I'm afraid, so beggars can't be choosers!

    Rally - job#2 = being mummy? :)

I agree with the beer. Next time you should get some. Which reminds me...

After a long day at a beer convention, several of the representatives from the various beer manufacturers were going out to dinner together. When placing orders, the rep from Coors ordered a Coors, the rep from Budweiser ordered a Budweiser, the rep from Corona ordered a Corona, and so it went until the rep from Guiness ordered. He ordered a coke.

The other reps were shocked and asked how he could possibly not order beer with his meal. He replied, "I figured if you weren't going to have beer with dinner, I wouldn't either."

Guiness is amazing, but it's plenty heavy! It's like a meal in a glass. One of the best tasting beers for sure though. The BEST pint of Guiness you will get is in Dublin. You've not had a pint of Guiness till you've had one straight from there.

I'm tempted to start a 'Best beers' thread...

They only out the lime in there to keep the flies out of the bottle.

No nasty smelly cigarettes here. I don't want to have to dryclean my clothes the next day. Off to the beer thread we go.

I remember when I wanted nothing more than a cold beer after a hard day's work (unless she had nice legs, that is). Never could smoke anything legal...

You know what they say about american beer--It's like Sex in a Canoe, it's F***ing close to water...
