The Super bowl is coming up soon, so this week is the time that many people upgrade their TVs. While I won't be one of them, we will be getting a new flat panel HDTV once we get our tax returns. Unfortunately, that is also the deciding factor on the screen size factor. (I want a 52" but I might have to settle for a 46")
I know for sure that we'll be getting one of Samsung's 81 series HDTVs. For those who don't know, the 81 series are some the very best LCDs money can buy. They've got LED backlighting that dynamically dim to enhance dark areas, a 120Hz refresh rate, 8ms response time, and have a native 1080p resolution.

Right now, we have our old 34" Phillips CRT TV that's getting demoted to bedroom duty once we have our new set.

    So, how about you? :rolling:

(Please note: Since the polls on the new boards suck eggs compared to the pools of old, I'm using a loophole of sorts...you'll figure it out sure enough, but if you're really that challenged, the "------" are seperators...meaning that you don't click them as an option. )

Is this poll about how many TVs we own personally, or how many we have in the household? Those can be two very different things...

My wife and I have a very simple arrangement. She owns the assets and I own the debt.

In our formal loungeroom we have General Electric 17" fishbowl with wooden paneling. My mum bought it like 25 years ago and its still kicking- if you want to use those red/yellow/white connectors you need to send them through the VCR though.

We have an LG 20" flatscreen CRT in our living/dining room, and it works pretty well. It's new-ish (early 2000's iirc) and has a little sensor to change the contrast or something when it gets lighter/darker - it holds up well in a very well lit room with a lot of glare.

I don't watch that much TV, just a few shows on a Wednesday and the cricket, and I tend to watch both tv's equally. I think my parents are kind of thinking of replacing one of them, but I'm really not fussed - standard def is fine for me for tv and I watch most of my films at a movie theater.

Sony 40" LCD in the living room, two (crappy) Thomson 18" CRTs in the other bedrooms and a Philips 29" CRT in my room.

Only the Sony actually shows any channels, the others are only for gaming and videos.

Just one oldish (about 10 years) 22" TV - it's all I need, really. I don't watch a lot of TV, and with a much larger screen I couldn't see the entire screen at one time unless I moved to a place with a larger living room. ;)

    I currently have a Viewsonic N3766w (37" / 720p)

But I voted for 2 and 720p + 1080p since I am going to get a new Sony this week. Probably a KDL-40X3500 (40" / 1080p) or possibly the W-series instead of X, which is a bit cheaper but is lacking slightly on the features. It would be a good compromise though.

I don't have a TV (and I don't want one in my flat). Couldn't find that option in the poll!

It's not there because everyone needs at least *one* TV. :p You don't have to watch actual television shows on it, you could watch a movie or play consol games on it too. Why you wouldn't want that is beyond me. :rolling:

You can play games and watch movies on a computer (especially if you're not the console type). IMO TV sets take dust and room and I hate TV programs (shows about the latest fads, news which are more entertainment than news, documentaries about trout fishing or deer hunting, ball games). Plus I really can't stand ads. My threshold is very low as far as ads are concerned. There are very few channels that are actually ads free.

A TV is not a prerequisite for a fulfilling life (quite the contrary if you ask me). This may sound weird to you but I actually enjoy life better without a TV.
