I have a ATI card as listed above and it seems to be overheating all the time. I've replaced it with a 7950 GT, but I would really like to know if anyone knows a place where I can get it fixed for cheap, or find a replacement heatsink cheap so I can sell it (assuming it works after the fix).

You probably just need to take off the stock cooler, clean off the old thermal compound, and replace it with some new stuff. I use Arctic Silver 5, but I've heard very good things about 'Liquid Metal' from Coollaboratory as long as you are only putting it on copper...

However, if you still want a aftermarket cooler, you should check these video card coolers out. :rolling:

If you want to sell the card, using an expensive cooler won't pay because it will automatically count as a used device - unless you charge extra for the card as "modded". As Kitrax says, you likely just need to use some real thermal compound and apply it in moderation - e.g. the expensive Arctic Silver 5 is actually efficient in that you just use a grain of rice amount per application.

I have some of that type of compound from a copper heatsink I bought for my processor. You think that would work?

I'll have to re-test the card after I apply, but hopefully that is all I needed. Might end up donating it to my brother.

Definitely. That's the same type of compound.

Might be a good solution if the card ends up tweaked or modded. My own brother is now the owner of my previous-previous card too (the previous one went RMA).

Once you get the old heatsink off, make sure you wash it with soap and water and dry it. Then clean both contact surfaces with 99% isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) before applying the thermal compound. :rolling:

My laziness of action saved me from causing myself some trouble it seems.

    Thanks for the help :).
