Youtube killed the video star?

    Interesting topic here. The song "Video killed the radio star" was always remembered as the prophetic song of the cusp of the new decade (80s), since the MTV era did more or less kill the radio star.

    Perhaps the most notable casualty of the Buggles' prophecy was Christopher Cross, a talented singer whose cherubic appearance just couldn't cut it for the new era. Meanwhile a talentless bimbo like Samantha Fox was instant gold cause she had, ya know.

    Is the internet, or more specifically Youtube, doing the same thing to the music video?

    I see it as more of a transition. Intelligent artists know how to take advantage of social media like Youtube. Ok Go are really good at that. They released a cd which received small to medium attention. For their second album, they decided to market it differently. They made the now famous treadmill video, launched it on youtube and voila, they are now famous.
