Favorite class for me is probably mage to.
But it differs from day to day, depends on my mood when I start playing.

Mage or Conjurer in BG1. All classes are cool in BG1 though, unlike some unnecessary kits in BGII.

Baronius is right with his comment. There aren't many "bad" character classes in BG1. In BG2, the introduction of kits does present some interesting opportunities, but it also gives you some stink-bombs like Jester, Beast Master, and Shapeshifter. Why anyone would want to go through the hassle of playing those characters is beyond me.

In BG1, I like Paladins the best.

I'm always been partial to the good ol' fighter/mage although you can't really get access to his full powers with such a low XP cap.

[IMG] Hey, fighter/mage, of course! Agreedly the XP cap is limiting, but the class still offers the best of both worlds and is great for continuing with the BG2 adventure, where more XP and abilities increase the range of diversity allowed by the dual class.

A well mad Fighter/Thief is the best. There's nothing better than to sneak up behind an hostile mage and "WHAM" the mage explodes in to tiny bits of meat

Mages are the best in BG I love...
    1. Summoning loads of monsters (Hobgoblins etc)
    2. Killing them all with one big fireball :D

I always play as a Paladin, because they are the most noble character you can get, and i always play the game following the laws, and i always try to do everything on the good way.

im, totally opposite! i only follow my own rules! i do what I think is right! i think you shouldn't do anything people want you to (eg, laws, rules) unless you agree with it too. in life and game!

hmmmmmmm, i would have to say that im more partial to a paladin as well, mainly because of lay on hands, but also i had a cool experience once when making one, he started out at lvl 4, dont know if anyone else had this happen, but i deleted him after the first area outside of candlekeep, killing the wolf in one hit and not taking any damage just isn't something that makes me happy so early in the game.

[IMG] Definetly a solo mage- its the only universal class that I have completed the game with. My end party was kind of farfetched- I had two mages!
    Xan
    Kivan
    Swynwyr (me)
    Ajantis
    Imoen
    Skie
Now however, I have a more well rounded party:
    Jahiera
    Branwen
    Val Kallesh(me)
    Imoen
    Minsc
    Dynaheir
The new ones in BGII stink- Id rather just have the classesin BG I

Just so you know, when we´re talking about "solo mage", we´re meaning that you dont have a party.
You´re going by yourself, as mage in this case.

I'm rather partial to basic fighters in BG1. T here's a lot of hack and slash to be done and t here's only so many times you can take Minsc with you. Besides, as far as not getting yourself killed goes, Fighter has a good shot at staing alive. My mages always got slaughtered before I could get anywhere.

Sorry, Eltan. I didn't understand the concept of solo mage, but I still have to say- I like mage better. I haven't soloed the game with a mage. Rangers and paladins are quite good also.

For your information, you're not forced to take a kit in BGII, you can still play the vanilla classes like in BGI.

My prefered class would be Bard, they have just a little less spellcasting than mages (understatement, I know) but they have better thaco, so they can better supplement their spells with Archery. And what makes the class so attractive for me: their lore. I just love to be able to identify almost anything without casting a spell or paying 100gp, just identify on the fly when you find the item, so nice. :D Plus that lore represents me pretty well IRL, cause there I also know a bunch of useless tales, stories and sagas. :D
