    [​IMG] The fourth edition of Infopop’s (they make the board software we're using) quarterly newsletter, YouMeWe, also offers a look at Community Management, written by yours truly. Of course, they managed to get the name wrong (Sorcerers.net instead of Sorcerer's Place... sic), but still. Should be an interesting read for those of you who haven't been around since 2000 when the boards went up. ;)

    Well, it was nice to read how it all started. When I first came here, there had already been over 4000 members and when I registered on 14th December 02 (that is two months after I got a stable connection independent from phone), it was like 5000 if I remember correctly. I somehow regret not having the access before and like the tales of old regulars.

    I'd like to know how BTA became part of the team. I pretty much know the contributions that led to Extremist's promotion, but BTA remains a mystery! ( this is probably off topic, but I'm in a random mood :yot: :thumb: )

    BTA has his own About Us page. He was the first person who totally understood the rules (not just to the letter but also the spirit they were written in) and knew how and when to enforce them. Basically, he stood out from the rest, so he was a logical choice. First for a mod and later admin. I can't say I've noticed another person with such admin potential post here in all the time the boards have been around. So, :thumb: to BTA!

    Yeah There are hardly any other than BTA. Though I would say Earl Grey is quite as potential as BTA. I would feel quite safe with him as a mod. And with the departure of Ex :( :sosad:

    We need to have a democratic election for a new mod if Extremist sadly enough is gone another year or so. I cannot see how that would be bad for the community in any way. Only fun and excitement can come out of an open election. :spin:

    @ Nobleman - I always felt that this was a benevolent dictatorship and, for the purposes of this site, would oppose any sort of open election. Tal runs this site, supports it like his child, etc. I could only imagine a vote of the X number of active members (shudders visibly). However, if Tal gets X+1 votes, then I'm all for the election.

    (I've seen some overreaching commentary from run of the mill members - like myself - that leads me to believe that being a mod is (1) a lot harder than it looks and (2) not for those who actually want the spot. Come to think of it, that's the way I feel about most politicians too... hmm, think I'll start an AoDA thread on this.)

    The biggest problem with finding new mods is 1) finding people who are here every day (obviously obligatory) and 2) finding people who are right for the job.

    In any event, I'm always looking for new mods, especially now that Ex is gone. So, if you think you're the right person for the job... Establish a constant positive presence on the boards, and you'll definitely be a candidate.

    And dmc, and election would be for new moderators only (and even then either confirmed or denied by me & BTA). Me and BTA as admins wouldn't go anywhere.
