You can find Xzar (and Montaron) at chapter 1, in the first wilderness area (area 2700) after leaving Candlekeep. His coordinates are x 4577, y 2693.

If you follow the road after leaving Candlekeep, it should lead straight to Montaron and Xzar.

And just to add a bit of flavour, if you keep him all the way to baldur's gate and go in the 'sorcerer's sundries'??? there is a tiny subplot for him ... Just thought I'd tell you that as we're on the subject of Xzar :)

Heh, every time I play BG and meet him. I let him join my team then I strip him of his items and send him in the direction of the nearest bear

Wait a sec, killing Xzar is negative and Xzar is negative sooooo - and - = +, so I think this smiley is more appropiate

    erm,

    Xzar rules
He has great voice (my favourites are "Stop touching me!!!" or "Your voice is ambrosia." or "I have become death, destroyer of worlds!") and cool attitude...anyway, I mostly dump him in Naskhel, where I meet the greatest red wizard of Thay, Edwin, who must be in my party, even if it's good :)

Nah he's just some necromancer engulfed in the dark arts and is obsessed with the quote from the creator of the atom bomb :)

It would be good if you could give him black robes so he could actually look like Death when he said it.

Sure, why not. Just change his colour scheme and then give him the robe/cloak of evil alignment (my memory fails me which is more likely)
