XFire is a new instant messenger program for games; you see who all is playing an online game and, for some, you can join them in game.

I was wondering if anyone here has tried this? If so, what do/did you think of it. If not, does it sound interesting? Would you try it?

I think it sounds interesting, but I would like to read other people's thoughts/opinions on it before doing so; I'd rather not waste my time on downloading, installing, and setting it up. Thank you for your input.

PS: Sorry if this was posted in the wrong forum.

Well, I heard in Natural Selection forums that it might include some spyware, but considering what it is used at; the whole damn program works on spyware basis. If you are already using Steam, another almost-but-not-there spyware, I cannot see any reason to install xFire. Firstly, how many of your friends will be using it? Second, why resort to software when you can just pay them a call? Lastly, it IS a bit suspicious program, isn't it? (Just check the privacy statement)

Yeah, it does seem suspicious, but nothing maleficent has been found due to installation of it, as of yet.

The Friends Network on Steam is down at least half of the time, so that is pretty much useless. Secondly, not everybody that I play with is within local calling distance and the phone isn't always available, either. I would also introduce people to it, so they'd have it, which is sort of what I'm asking for here.

Just looking for an easier way to let people know what I'm playing so I can play with them more ofen and more easily, tis all.
