    Actually as someone who plays pitcher, catcher, and shortstop at leigon level I can honestly say that is wrong. Except for straight pop-fly's, dinks and bloopers the ball is generally faster than the pitch. Line-Drives can at times come back with a 50% gain in speed. The glove is definitely needed.

    That could very well be true. I know that on some TV broadcasts, the radar gun can give readings of the incoming pitches and outgoing hits. Most home runs are clocked at around 100 mph, which is about a 10% increase in pitch speed in most cases. I suppose that since most home runs are not line drives that they could potentially be travelling faster.

    Oh my God. Poor Detroit, they lost that final game due to numerous mistakes on their own part. But hey, I was one of the two people in my entire residence cheering for the Cardinals, so I'm quiet happy right now. :D
