I am currently try a Wild Mage build.

Its wild surge are playing merry hell with my planning. It effectively limit my casting, and I am very leery whenever I plan to cast Wild Mage.

One of effect is remove my money.

So I'd like to withdraw money out of my own purse and put it somewhere else outside of wild surge's reach.

    Is there any way?

(Currently I am storing my loots and not selling yet, living on by looted and reward money. SCS set Baylan and magic fee at 120k and 50k)

AFAIK, there's no way to take the party gold and stash it somewhere, besides using it to buy items that you can later re-sell (at a bit of a loss usually) when you need some $$$.

Although gold exists as a physical item in-game, there's no way to extract it once it's converted into a stat on your character. Either cast chaos shield on your wild mage to avoid bad results or reload the game when they happen. Plus, the chance to lose your gold is 1 in 2000 on any given spell cast and non-existent once on a reckless dweomer once you reach level 17. It's really not something you should be concerning yourself over.

You can just sing yourself to sleep with that "the chance to lose your gold is 1 in 2000 on any given spell cast"...

I already get that chance. Curiously enough there's precisely 2700 gold left. What the Baator!

I am storing loots in Promenade, but my purse is 29k already~

I might have use clua command code to advance DeArnise Keep ruling quest. IIRC there's a few quest there that use up a lot of money. Invest money, but not taking the tax.... that could work.

Like I said, on the off chance that you get a really bad result, just reload the game. What's the issue here? You're not even gonna cast 2000 spells in the entire playthrough.

    Funny you should say that.

Wild Surge is primary reason I am using my Fighter Wild Mage so sparingly and mostly in fighter's role. I find that the surges are effectively stiffle my (over)use of arcane magic. You dont want to get a Fireball center on yourself (done twice), or gating in a fiend (once) or losing money (done). The times I was dizzy and unable to cast spells effectively is too numerous to count. And reloading after getting such things are too much of a chore.

Well, that's the price for being a Wild Mage. I would say that you just don't enjoy the class. You might like the cool reckless dweomer, but aren't willing to pay the price.
Next time just go with a plain wizard or a normal specialist.

That said, if the table in the manual is accurate, I disagree with the order of the items given how the mechanics of the chaos shield spell are explained. A lot of the first 25 effects are harmless. The first forty should be the nastiest effects in descending order, with the first 15 being the worst, then the next 10 detrimental effects, then the next 15 worst effects. After that the order won't matter (assuming there are more bad ones instead of just weird or beneficial) because it is a random 1d100+15(Chaos Shield)/25(improved chaos shield)/40(both) roll.

Anyways, I found the class too annoying myself. Maybe if Chaos Shield and/or Improved Chaos Shield had a duration comparable to Stoneskin, or Strength, or even Mage Armor, but I found it too short.

The power of casting highest spell like Limited Wish, Bigsby, etc are not nearly enough to pay for the random effects and the wild surge.

Now the class might be worth it if the random wild surges were generally minor and you were only subject to the major effects when casting reckless dweomer. Especially if it somehow scaled the effects with the spell level and your caster level.

You're entitled to your opinion. It's wrong, but you're entitled to it. :p

Personally, I played a modded wild mage with unlimited reckless dweomer spells and it was as fun as it was overpowered, especially by the time you reach top-level spells. If reloading the game and losing a minute or two of your time on the off chance that something horrible happens and you can't handle it is too much of a chore (as though trying to pointlessly mitigate the drawbacks is somehow better), then you shouldn't be playing a wild mage.

Or you could just console in any lost cash as needed. Not like it's less of a cheat than reloading as it literally serves the same purpose.

I simply said that chaos shield, especially the 7th level improved chaos shield should mitigate the worst effects of wild surges. A 7th level slot is really powerful and you don't get enough of them, for that price it should do so as you are sacrificing that slot.

Note that even you find the original wild mage not suitable to play.

Good lord! You mod in unlimited NRD and you call that class overpower~

Has anybody ever reworked the Wild Surge table along the lines I described in my earlier post?
Namely setting it up so Chaos Shield will remove the 15 worst Wild Surges and Improved Chaos Shield will prevent the 25 worst wild surges from happening?

That's potentially doable in EE, but I think the majority of the table is hardcoded in classic, even with ToBEx.

I said neither of those things and I'll thank you for not twisting my words, Sir! :shake:

My point was that I played the extreme version where every spell comes with a wild surge and it was in no way debilitating or a bother. That does not mean I don't regularly play a standard wild mage (which I do, especially now that Neera is a thing) or that I find anything besides my abuse of reckless dweomer overpowered.

Sorry, but I got the same impression as Laclongquan that you played a modded version because you did not like the original implementation. It's one of the only classes I've never beat the game with and the only one I gave up on without starting over with a new build (hello Sorcerer).
I don't think I've ever given a single-class cleric or thief without a kit a chance at all, and I honestly can't recall playing as an Inquisitor as when I want that class I take Keldorn.

At level 11, Wild Mage has 5 slot of NRD. It sounds a lot until you realize you got about 2 or 3 chance of using it for correct spell, the rest is fizzled into something useless or harmful. And in battle, you dont want that chance happen, even if it's harmless, because it cost us a combat casting action.

Possibly, to use NRD in combat, it's best to use NRD to cast Contigency, and sequencer, at lower level. AKA casting outside of combat in order to use in combat.

Using reckless dweomer with contingency spells gives your next spell cast a 100% wild surge chance, so you either have to waste another spell after that or deal with the risk.

And while you might not always get the result you wanted, there's just as many beneficial wild surges as there are harmful ones. You're just not willing to embrace the chaos.

There is a trick to fake being able to withdraw money... if you squint

    1. Use the command
    CLUAConsole:CreateItem("misc07",number)
To create a pile of gold with our money number in inventory...
Stash that somewhere chosen to be central storage.

    2. Go to a temple and donate all the gold. We will get +1 rep. That can be dealt with easily.

How's that different from just giving yourself the gold back if you lose it?
