Why won't the wizard spells work?

I have installed the entire Deluxe edition, and started a new singleplayer character in the first campaign. I wanted a spellcaster, and tried a sorcerer2/wizard1 combination to get both kinds of spells. The spells the sorcerer has chosen work well, but the spells the wizard chose when I added a level of this class, won't work. They are in his spellbook and I have added them to the quick launch menu, but they are grey and not possible to activate. Resting makes no difference. (The spells are for 1st level wizard.)

Why don't they work? Have I done something wrong by combining these two classes? I have chosen high levels in both charm and intelligence. (or wisdom... dont remember... the skill wizards use.)

If I give him levels in a third caster class, what would bring new types of spells in? Druid? Bard? Ranger? (not palladin, as he isnt lawful good.)

I hope you do not take this as an insult (as it is NOT meant as such), but you do know wizards (as well as druids, clerics, rangers and paladins have to memorise their spells in advance?

The fact that bards and sorcerers do not have to do this is kinda the thing that makes them special.

Open the spellbook, click on the wizard spell list, and choose the spells to memorise.

If it is because of a bug, then I'm sorry, I have no idea.

Cantlos is probably right. It is not enough to drag the spells from the spellbook to the quick launch menu, you also have to set them up for memorization. The way this works is: when you press on the spellbook tab, there should be two screens appearing (kind of like the two pages of a open book). On the left, you have the spells you know; on the right you initially have some empty slots, which you can fill up by clicking on particular spells on the left. Once you set them in the memorization slots, you sleep and when you awake, they should be ready to go.

By the way, Sorcerers choose from exactly the same spell list that wizards have available. So, I don't think there is much point in picking a sorc/wizard combination (unless you want to roleplay one).
