Yes Sword of Shannara is a blatant Lord of the Rings clone - and Terry Brooks freely admits this. It was his novel and he has developed quite a lot since then.

Cool - Don Quixote is enormous - but a very cool book. Check out the movie 'Lost in La Mancha' about Terry Gilliam's failed attempt to film the book with Johnny Depp.

Honorable Warrior: Harold K. Johnson and the Ethics of Command.

General Johnson was Chief of Staff during President Johnson's Vietnam years. I'm not very far into it, but the centerpiece of the book is the behind the scenes debate over the strategy of the Vietnam War, with Gen. Johnson's disagreement with Gen. Westmoreland and President Lyndon Johnson over the way the war was conducted. So far it's only OK.

Let's see... my current reading list consists of:

The Lord of the Rings (yet again... getting ready to write my ROTK review)

    1984 - George Orwell's CLASSIC

Elements of the Art of Rhetoric - An 1850s rhetorical treatise by Henry Noble Day - the subject of my Master's Thesis, if you really wanted to know!

The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind - an interesting book by Mark Noll about Evangelical Christianity and its neglect of the intellect (and therefore the soul!)

The problem with Don Quixote si that you can completely tune out, then realise this several paragraphs later, all the while realising that you've missed nothing at all (Not that paragraphs are very well defined).

Still, quite interesting, odd enough to hold my attention :D

The problem that I found with Don Quixote is that the writing is so uneven. There are sections that are absolutely great and then huge sections that are mind numbingly dull and very little material falling in between these two extremes. Don Quixote is one of the very few books that I would recommend reading an abridged edition.

I just finished "Sourcery" by Pratchett, I must say it was bad. It was without a question the worst Pratchett book I have ever read, heck it is more or less the only Pratchett book I have read that I didnt like. Before that I read "Nightwatch" and it was awesome, really good. It seems like it took a while for Terry to get comfortable with his writing as Sourcery is one of his first novels.
