I have two favorite christmas carols.

The first is "And So This Is Christmas" by John Lennon

The second is "The Little Drummer Boy" rendition done by Bing Crosby and David Bowie.

What is your favorite Christmas carol? (It doesn't have to be sung by anyone in particular - just the song if you like.

    Beware incidental humor.

All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth is one I'm partial to because I went without mine for 8 years as a child.

Rhi Rhi Chi by The Monkees was the first Latin song I heard. Played heck with the Spanish teacher in high school, whom I asked to translate.

    :yot: Post 3K.

What is our definition of 'carol'? Much as I like John Lennon, I'm not sure I would classify War is Over as being a 'carol'. Aren't carols more like the traditional stuff that carolers sing by candlelight on a snowy street corner?

For sure it won't be the 'new hit' from Crazy Frog or the song from some sheeps, that, in accordance with the news, WILL be major hits, like in England.
Sorry for English people, but, what do I care the bad taste they have? Why I have to like that too?
We have one carol that would be hard for me to translate to English, called Santa's ride.

    To sing?

The Bells -- by Edgar Allen Poe.

    Great song for a choir.

To listen to, I couldn't just pick one. A few that come to mind are:

The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole
    Blue Christmas by THE KING
    White Christmas by Bing Crosby
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer by Gene Autry
Have a Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives

The Manhattan Transfer has the best Christmas album I've ever heard -- although Andy Williams' and Nat King Cole's are outstanding.

    @Harbourboy - note*

I would say that "And so this is Christmas" is a non traditional Chrismas carol, but if you don't agree with my wording we can just go with favorite Christmas song.

They're all ****. Nothing worse than little chavs knocking on your door every 5 mins and badly singing some crappy Christmas carol and expecting money. Bah, humbug.

To sing? Once in Royal David's City. The descant is phenomenal to belt out with an organ playing in the background. That and Carol of the Bells. I love that build up of sound. /end geek

To listen to? Perhaps something like Don't they Know it's Christmas Time?

/me wanders off singing "Feed the world, don't they know it's Christmas time?"
