With a 1d4 weapon, this means your damage will be taken from a roll with one 4 sided (virtual in CRPG's) dice. That means your damage can vary from 1 to 4. If it says 2d8, this means you have 2 eight sided dice, which means your damage may vary from 2 to 16.

    Etcetera.

I thought 2d8 means you deal damage ranging from 2-8. Also, does 2d8+1 mean 3-17 dmg?? Help me out Faragon!

No, 2d8 means you roll 2 eight sided dice. So that will give you a damage range of (1 to 8) + (1 to 8) = 2 to 16.

The +1 means that you roll the dice normally, and that whatever you roll, it gets +1 added. So if you roll a 3, the effective amount of damage done is 4. (Not counting resistances here of course, to simplify matters) So basically, yeah 2d8+1 gives you a damagerange of 3-17.

    [IMG] Newbies...

1d4 means One Four Sided Dice (1-4 damage).
    1d6 means 1-6 damage.
    2d4 means 1-4 + 1-4 damage (2-8)
    and so on.

    " 2d8+2 "

[2d] The first number means how many dice you are rolling. In this case you are rolling 2 dice.

[d8] This says how many sides there are on the die, in this case; this die has Eight (8) sides. So you can get a value from 1-8.

[+2] This is added on to the end. So you roll your amount of dice, count up the score, then add this to the end.

    So you could roll:
    (first die)= 6
    (second die)= 3
    This would give you 9.
    (add the bonus)= 2.
    This would give you 11.

    Heh. ;)

Well, I must thank you too, but can you list all the dices, which are possible to find in the game or it's a matter of the game that generates them?

You can find the following deices:
    1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d10, 1d12, 1d20, and sometimes to determine a percentage chance of something to happen program uses 1d100.... this could be multipiled like 2d8 ; i think tha's all :)

[IMG] Most IE games use the Standard D&D dice, namely the ones Misiek listed. But theoretically, it could use any dice. Even 1d2 or 7d64.

[IMG] Excuse me? You don't "meet" dice. And you don't "make" dice either.
Please re-phrase your question, or learn english.

Don't be confused by the dice thing, it is just another way to express range. You see, all these D&D are initially designed for pen and paper role playing games. It would be easier for people to use dice to decide a number within a specific range rather than ...errr... randomly pick a number withing a range. So, here comes the dice, or more specificly, nDx. If you played Diablo, it is just the same thing. Instead of 1~10, they use 1d10 or 2d5.

Hmm... perhaps you mean, "What are the best and worst rolls we have made?" At any rate, dice is plural for die. Check out any pen and paper RPG especially D&D for more info.
    Right! The most common dice though are d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100 although the d100 doesn't have 100 sides. :D

If you use a weapon with a 50% chance to stun an opponent, you could say you need to roll 51+ on a 1d100, you could also say you need to roll 2 on 1d2. Now what's the worst roll? :p

    Edit:
The worst and best rolls I've had sofar were a critical miss and a critical hit. Though a critical hit is easier to roll if you can get them at 19 or even 17.

[IMG] Faragon, nope, not you! hehe :)
I was referring to anyone needing to ask what 1d6 meant. I mean;...really. Oh yes, let's not forget the d20. Anyone here played the "Pulp Fiction" d20 game? No? Didn't think so. :(

Charlie, actually there was a d100. it was a polychohedrian or something like that. i own one, beats two d10, the first for the tens spot and the second for the ones spot. The armory ( a company that makes dice for Pen and Paper role playing games) also made a d30 that was usally used with wandering monster tables. :)
