    hi all
I need some help whith the Weapon Proficiencies for a thief(bounty hunter). Is one-weapon fighting or two-weapon fighting better for a thief. Or do i need both?

Are you soloing or in a party?
If you are in a party I would sugest using ranged weapons as to minimise the chance of being killed.
However if you are soloing you may want to consider going into melee ocasionally.

Thieves generally have a pretty hight THAC0, so duel weilding is probable not a god idea. I would sugest using a long sword or katana, as they can be used to backstab.

no use a Katana/scimitar, you get a decent thaco and if you use CF/and the monk blade that gives poison+1 extra attack/round your set.
    ¨very good combo

    Thx for your answer

but is for backstab (whith hit and fade) one-weapon fighting better?
and for normal fighting is 2 weapon fighting better?

If its so, i would chose both i think

If you want +2 to AC and critical hits at roll of 19 go for single weapon.
If you want 1 additional attack per round, go for dual weilding.
Once you get ** in either style, there should be no problems with backstabbing.

If you are dual weilding you can use a weapon which can give you immunity to certain types of spells. Weimers upgraded weapons mod gets you a dagger which raises your backstab multiplyer by 1.

One weapon IS better for backstab, since AFAIK only the first attack is considered a backstab, which is done with the primary weapon. And you cannot put more then one * in any weapon style or proficiency if you're a pure thief. If you're dual classed you can if fighter levels are regained. You could even gain weapon mastery. With a multi class fighter thief your limited to specialisation.

I would HIGHLY recommend going for Scimitar.

Belm +2 gives an extra attack. So does the Scarlet Ninja To +3 (AFTER UAI)...which theoretically gives you 4 attacks!!! That's a lot for a melee thief if you ask me.

I would recommend setting traps while hiding, then using a ranged weapon...Tuigan +1 is good as it gives you three attacks per round.

Since you're a bounty hunter, I would say backstabbing and trapping should be your modus operandi...and for your original question, Scimitars and Short Bows.

Well actually a thief has no buisness in close combat and should run away everytime he hits. I would suggest Celestial Fury for the stun chance, which means you can run away from a stunned opponent. you should have enough chances to hide in shadows (boots of speed are excellent to get out of the line of sight of opponent where you can hide again) or use potions or rings to become invisible. The otiluke's reselient sphere effect is usesless IMHO, although the maze effect is handy so you're able to set up even more traps in the area :p

    @ Thunder
Why would you run away if the enemy is already stunned?

And Faraaz, I dont think either of the scimitars you mentioned are that great in the main hand.

If you are using a single weapon, get CF.
However as a bountyhunter I think most of your game will be spent getting enemies to run into your traps. In such a case get the short bow from CC.

    Single Weapon style, for SURE.
As Shrikant mentioned, the item upgrade mod gives you a dagger that gives +1 to your backstab modifier. This is the kind of weapon that gives you bonuses to various things, but doesn't do that much damage, so you want it in your offhand. But, the bonus that this weapon gives you is more refined. Since it gives you a bonus to your backstab modifier, use it for backstabbing (main hand) and then switch to your other weapon for the rest of your fighting needs. There's no need to go for two weapon fighting. And doubling the chances of your critical hit is very powerful, indeed!

By the way, if you have the mod that brings in a few IWD 2 weapons, you may find Lloth's Cruel Sting quite useful for its webbing power. Plus, at a good reputation it's rather cheap, for a +3 weapon, and you can get it very early (the trader is in the Adventurer's mart)
It comes with the underrepresented items mod. As it brings a lot of new short swords and daggers into the game, it can be quite useful if you are playing a thief. Short swords are useful mainly for their low speed factor, many have 0 (sword of backstabing, kundane, Cutthroat...). This is primarily useful against spellcasters, so that you can backstab before they can cast stoneskin. Of all katanas or scimitars, only the upgraded Hindo's Doom and Usuno's blade and Yamato have 0 speed factor. So I can recommend taking at least 1 slot in short swords and possibly daggers, since you can't specialize anyway (swashbucklers are another species altogether).

Shortsword of the mask in the main hand for 'entangle'.

At the moment I am having lots of fun soloing with a halfling assassin and I use the sword of the mask and belm and I do lots of poison damage using my special 'poison' ability.

Later in the game the 'belm' sword will be good if you choose assassinate.

another, more cheesy but much, much more powerfull way.

3 stars in dual weilding, 3 en short sword, and some in scimitar.

get aVENGERS rouge mod, and get the rouges ward+2 it alows for 1 mislead/day

and the sword of backstabbing(backstab+1) and take a sword with high dammage in the main hand, and backstab away.

Um, a bounty hunter can't get 3 stars in dual wielding, 3 in short sword, and some in scimitar.
If I remember correctly, he can only get one star in anything, and that includes the various styles of fighting.
