Recently I've been practically unable to drag myself out of this damned addictive game, and I was just curious to know what other people thought of it, and if there have been any other similar type of games (apart from wbc1 obviously). The only other games I've seen that (partially) succeeded at mixing rpg and rts elements were an extremely old snes game called Ogre Battle, and a fairly old PC game called Lords of Magic. I enjoyed both of them a lot, am currently loving Warlords Battlecry 2, and would be interested to learn about any other games with similar ideas. Any help out there?

[IMG] Finally after all this wailing and complaining a fellow Battlecry member of the boards.

These games are excellent. I utterly agree. Anyway the old game Dungeon keeper II is rts and adventure world. Even more strategy than WLBC. There are so many hidden tricks and strategies to discover. And it features lots of ancient beasts and predators. Mages, Rouges and fighters.

There is just not any hero to develop which makes MP gaming quite a must. The AI in Dungeon Keeper plays even worse than in WLBC, believe it or not. And in Dungeon Keeper this isn't made up at high level with an rediculous amount of resources as it is in WLBC against Warlords and Grand Warlords

Still if you stumble across Dungeon Keeper II, then it is a pearl. Against other humans that game is a joy. Each game last at least an hour and the battle can sway a lot. It is not over untill it is over. Far from the ,rush and destroy within minutes, tactics in WLBC-games. The one who first turns the battle to his side, will dominate untill the end. Dungeon Keeper is much different than that. Also because every single creature in Dungeon Keeper has a mind of its own and there is a dungeon heart to destroy. Hardly a feature from WLBC. Very funny. Indeed.

I still love WLBC. RTS combined with adventure and roleplaying games are my favorites.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten Dungeon Keeper lol. I've played the first one and it was pretty fun, and I loved the intro :D

I haven't actually played WBC1, but from what you said about the AI, I would say it has been vastly improved in 2. No more unlimited resources for the AI, and if you give it a break at the higher levels, it WILL crush you :) As for the hero development, yep, it really is well done and adds a lot to the game without making the normal units just fodder for opposing heros, well balanced I thought.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get onto the ubi.com servers to try multi, but even so if you liked the first one everyone on the boards there reckons its even better, so give it a try.

I'll have to see if I can find me a copy of Dungeon Keeper 2 sometime :D Thanks for the reminder lol

Well, I've played Warlords Battlecry. What's the difference between that and the sequel?

I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm not sure... :hmm:

Just what I have heard so don't take it for anything but a stray comment.

The usual better graphics. More delicate Hero advancment, and better AI (which can hardly be worse than in WLBC1).

That is it. Not a whole lot. SO I'll save my money for NWN and lurk around in the shadows with my F/M/T. Occasionally stalking Shralp. :1eye:

I just finished Warlords 2. I must say I'm pretty disappointed with the campaign: there's no plot. You just go around conquering regions. However you get a lot of bonuses for your character and troops so that somewhat makes up for the lack of story.
Anyway, it's a great game; at least to kill time until Icewind Dale 2 is available.
