OOC: i started this roleplay because i wanted the action of a war between orcs and humans (other races welcome to join!). Feel free to take on the role of a commander, sergeant, common soldier, even one of my men....anything that you want!

STORY: an orc army has been massing in a vally surrounded by a range of mountains. The humans that live in the surrounding areas find this a valuable place to live with very fertile land. Being in the centre of large cities outside of the ranges, possible trade routes that could go through these lands rather than around saving merchants much money have been encouraged; villages and towns have sprung up everywhere. providing shelter and sanctuary for the caravans that pass through these lands the towns have become rich, but the increase of humans and travel in the valley has alarmed the orcs of the incursion into their territory and are now threatening to take it back with force. The citizens and traders of the valley have been forced to stockpile their wealth to pay for the defense of their homes and business'.

IC: Feirhanith, now a company commander steps out of the command tent closely followed by his fellow commanders. Feirhanith, commander of a heavy cavalry company was to head out as soon as possible with his men. He was to reach the mountain pass to the West of the camp, then to turn back North towards the the orc army. Concealed by the dense forrest along the base of the towering mountains Feirhanith's men were to launch an attack into the rear of the orc's lines once the main assult across the open, rolling farmland had started.

Feirhanith reaching his section of the camp, immediately mounting his great Black stallion 'Anteheth'. His squire passing up Feirhanith's heavy lance for him to take into battle upon this day.
Looking across at his hundered and fortytwo men Feirhanith said a prayer to his God and gave the signal of but two words...."To Battle!". They rode out in many ranks, standard's flying among the sea of armour and lances; the chink of the metal barding as the horses picked up their pace to a trot.

Khazar although offered a commanding position decided to stay as a loyal freelance scout to Feirhanith. Khazar chose the role as it meant he did not have to converse with too many people and could keep his nomadic lifestyle and chosen professions.

Khazar riding back from the dense forest at the bottom of the mountains cantered up to Feirhanith on his own bay stallion.

"Feirhanith the orcs are in charging mood and have their standards and musicians ready for the attack on the nearest outlying farms.

I have evacuated the residents and they have fled to the forests where my contacts will protect them.

I am more than ready to join you in your current task and have orderd a few of my scouts to join us (only around 20).

My blades are polished and tuned to take on their troll friends aswell their are only about ten of them, remember we need our battle mages ready to finish them off."

The half elven ranger, Lailyn, spied the orcs from the side of a mountain. He approximated the amount of orcs as (DM decide). He thought of some possible attack plans involving lots of fireballs comeing down from the top of the valley blasting apart the orcs. He smiled at the thought. The ranger quickly went down the mountain to report to Feirhanith.

OoC: Khazar, be warned, this character may not hesitate to knock off your charactor like K'seeren did.

From the hillside high above watched Leianna.

The Drow elf thought to herself. 'It wasnt wise to cross a Drow elf, especially this drow elf!'

Then she turned and looked up into the wind.
She spoke softly 'Feirhannith, Your time here is done'.
With this she made a hand signal, and from a crag behind her rose her 11 companions on their Dark steeds. With one last thought of the blood and death to come, she climbed onto her mount. Then with a shrill bird like cry the 11 other Drow Elves rose into the sky on their Horse sized Black Dragons, with Leianna at their lead, her Giant blue Dragons Scales sparkling in the morning light.

OOC: Dont worry Feirhannith, this shouldnt come to a bloody end! ;)

STORY: The 7000 or so Orcs were lined up in ranks upon the green hillside facing the encamped human army. The human mercinary army was comprised of various companies totaling about 4000 troops.

IC: Feirhanith turning from his plans of the area to see Khazar and Lailyn apraoching him. "from the reports that i have recieved it is believed that there are elements of the Orc army behind the main ones. We need to know what they are doing there! Khazar take your scouts have have a look for me! Lailyn stay with me, i may need your magic!"

[IMG] From high above the battlefield, a rank of dragons were glancing carefully down into the mist, and clouds below.

Leianna, Head of the regiment leaded down, and pressed her spyglass to her eye. Noting where the various human ranks were, she searched for her target. She scanned quickly through the ranks, until she saw the face of the Paladin which she was after. She also saw several goblin assasins which had slipped through the ranks, and the watchful eye of the ranger who was guarding him.

'Feirhanith is my kill, and i'll have it no other way' she said loudly to herself, and pointed her dragon down into the mist, her companions following.

Lailyn's keen eyes soon spotted the small shapes hurtling down from the heavens, and called a warning to his friend. Several others heard him, and at once realised they were under attack, and dived for cover.

'Dragons!' the Paladin hissed under his breath. Take cover! As he spoke a ball of flame was spat from the mouth of the lead dragon, and got larger very quickly.
The tent behind the Paladin burst into Flame, and as Feirhannith turned to survey the damage, three Goblins run from, the tent, in balls of flame, dropping daggers, and bows as they ran. Feirhannith looked back up into the sky, but not a dragon could be seen.

Khazar wheeled round to see the destruction from the dragons and let fly an arrow at the lead one with no luck as it bounced off its scales with ease.

Khazar then noticed the goblins assassins fleeing from the tent that was now burning well. He charged at them on his horse drawing his blades, and as the second blade escaped from its sheath he lept off his horse. With incredible accuracy he cut the three unarmed assailants to pieces with relative ease before he touched the ground.

Khazar turned to Feirhanith who was nearby and shouted to him...

Feirhanith I now them I have heard about their leader she is a very dangerous enemy and skilled fighter. It would be best to deal with the orcs as soon as possible. I'll take my scouts and tear apart the first wave as best I can they won't notice us till you arrive.'

Khazar noticing Lailyn an old accuaintance signaled to him thrugh the now acrid smoke emmitting from the tent.

Lailyn rode over willingly but also cautious.

    Khazar spoke to him...

'Brother we must put aside our differences and go ino battle together, it would do me great honour if we could fight alongside each other.'

Khazar before Lailyn could reply signalled to his horse and mounted it and turned to the ranger...

    'Well what do you say?'

[IMG] Leianna smirked. That'd gone well.

She'd have feirhannith...eventually, but for now she would be happy to toast a few orcs with her dragons fire.

She smiled to herself, almost sweetly as she thought of the ranger who'd shot at her. She'd have to watch that one...closely

STORY: A group of about 300 orcs with axes and about 50 with bows decide to leave the main force, going into the woods to the side of the vally in look for mercinary scouts.

IC: Feirhanith, riding ahead of the main column of lancers with his 5 man escort were riding ahead because of continued reports of orc scouts. The 6 riders reached the edge of a clearing in the woods that they were riding through and suddenly stopped as they realized what had made this clearing. "Harthely quickly, ride back and report to the men of the situation we have here, GO!" with that feirhanith's first sergeant raced back the way they had just come. the 5 remaining men dismounted "jusphian take the horses back out of earshot so the orcs cant hear them and then get back here as fast as possible"

In the clearing about 300 orcs had made camp and were making use of their primative weapons cutting a larger space for some kind of structure they seemed to be preparing to build.

Khazar now dismounted left the safety of the shadows from a tree within a few metres of Feirhanith and strode over to the warrior...

"We have been watching them since I left you an hour ago, they have broken off from the main force and are attempting to build siege weapons. Kalyse my second in command has his elven rangers posted in trees surrounding the orcs there are about 50 of his troops. From reports coming from his men they are building the weapons to take on the outlying farms and settlements to make way for the weapons the main force are bringing in. The main force appears to be bringing around 30 or 40 crudely built rock lobbers not worthy of being called catapults. They also have a few ballistas from what I have gathered about 15 in total, but I believe there are much more war engines that we do not know about."

Khazar wheeled round to have his back facing Feirhanith...

"Give a whistle when we are to attack but don't use your warhorn, the longer the main group don't know about this camp not existing any more the better. It will definately spoil there plans, that is if that bloody dark elf doesn't come back."

With that Khazar walked over to the nearest tree and moulded into it's shadow completely out of sight.

Lailyn sliped off into the forrest one hundred metres from where Khazar dissappeared from. He thought that a bit of ambushing of the orcs might go a long way. He slipted through the trees, almost silently until he came to a place that may make a good ambush spot. It was a large and easilly climbable tress that he could work his bow. Quickly he scaled the tree and prepared his longbow for an orc party.

Drazhar looks back down the rank of the assembled pathfinders unit. With a silent motion of his hand the squad silently creep through the trees, making hardly a sound.

Feirhanith had recruited Drazhar into the war beteen the orcs and the and the set of human settlements scattered around the area.
None else in the army, apart from Feirhanith actualy knew that the squad of 10 or so men were slowly creeping behind the orcs lines.
Through the trees Drazhar spots some movement and halts his small regiment with a swishing hand.

Drazhars small regiment was a mixture of most of the major races in the realms. It consisted of humans, elves (of all kinds, drow and high alike), a few halflings and 2 dwarfs.
The squad was attired totaly in black or greys. All of them were carrying their own arsenal of weapons. Ranging from gleaming, mean daggers, to jeweled swords.

Through the trees Drazhar sights a small encamptment of orcs camping in the cleared area and were busy making a kind of structure.
Drazhars keen eyesight spots Feirhanith and his small honor gaurd appear at the fringe of the trees, and slowly retreat the way they went to diembark from their horses.
Drazhar smiles to himself and motions his hand in a sweeping circle, that his crack squad quickly nods to.
In no time at all the squad of mixed assasins, thiflings and blades were blending with the forest and taking up positions around the camp.

A smack to the back of his head almost sent Gruk's helmet flying off. A bit dizzy from the unsuspected blow, Gruk repositioned his helmet and raised his head only to be furiously assaulted by his commander's glaring eyes.

"Rargh! No idle! Work!" yelled Zul as he stomped away from Gruk. Named after one of the most prominent orkish gods of war, Zul is a commanding figure with strength and fierceness to match his temper, although leaving much to be desired as a military commander. He'd rather be in the heat of battle, bloodying his axe instead of wasting time with trees building toys.

Gruk muttered a curse after him followed by a grunt as he picked his axe.

"Gruk no like war." he kept muttering as he returned to his half hearted attempt at chopping a tree. "Gruk no like war"

IC: Feirhanith could smell the horrid stench of the orc ahead of him as he creeped up behind the lone sentry. Feirhanith lothed having to keep down wind of orcs but if he was to sneak up on an orc he would need all the help his skills could offer. Feirhanith's hand went to his sword hilt, drawing his oiled blade silently he closed the last few feet. His trusty blade raised at head level, it's point just behind the vile creatures neck. With a jolt it bit deep into it's windpipe spraying its lifeblood onto the ground. Feirhanith trying to stop it's screem of pain desperatly fought to keep it's mouth covered until finally the struggle was finally ended. It lay there upon the moist dirt looking blankly at the tree canopy, feirhanith ripped a couple small bushes out of the ground nearby placing it over his victim's body. He looked up to see a few of his other men nearby and gave the sign that his target was eliminated, they also did the same. all the time manouvering through the trees around the west of the clearing attempting to come up behind the main guard and the line of sight of the crude orc dwellings.

  15. zaknafein Guest

After many unevenful monemts, Lailyn jumped down from the tree. "I guess they don't have as good a defence as I thought. Not even a patrol." He slipted back off into the woods and listened intentily for any sound of the orcs. His keen ears picked up the sounds of heavy feet stomping around and some heavy objects, probably logs, been thrown together, and a faint, stiffled orcish scream. He ran off silently in that direction, smiling at the thought that the assassains must be in place. When he arrive at the orcish dwellings he found Feirhanith's group already in position and the sentries dead. He moved into a position near the back of the orc camp behind a bunch of cut down trees.

Drazhar stalked through trees and underbrush, making not a sound.
He silently came upon a sentry releiving himself in the trees, hot steam rising up from foul smell coating the nearby bush.
Drazhar silently manouvres himself behind the orc and draws his long bladed dagger.
Putting his hand over the orcs mouth to stiffle its scream, he pulls the head back and stabs repeatedly at corner of the throat, where it connects to the shoulder.
The orc falls to its knees twitching and gulping, its black blood spraying high into the air.
Drazhar looks back at the camp and notices that the same is being done to the other sentries by Feirhanith and his honor gaurd.
Drazhar smiles before pulling the orc into the bush, leaving a faint trail of black from the spilt blood on the leaves.
"So its all going to plan," Drazhar whispers to himself.

ooc: Orcs do have black blood right?

Khazar noticing the controlled killings around the camp and saw a group of 20 or so orcs crowded around a fire that were sure to alert the larger group in the centre.

Khazar notioned to his elven rangers and they all picked a target and let fly their arrows without a sound.

All 23 of the orcs dropped dead in that single momment all from headshots by elven arrows, but khazar noticed one had run and was about to alert the larger group of fifty or so orcs.

As the orc ran through the woods he was gaining up to the group in the centre when khazar let fly an arro from his bow and caught the orc in the throat.

The orc slumped to the ground with a mighty thud and a few of the orcs in the larger group heard the noise and got up to investigate.

The orcs saw about 50 yards from their little camp a body lying on the ground and not noticing it was one of their own, tried their best to stealthily creep up to it.

Feirhanith and his men stalked further into the camp behind the tents to try to infiltrate the command tent....if they could find it in this shambles. Feirhanith poked his head around the corner of a couple of sacks containing something that smelled so vile that it would make him vomit if he were in more friendly circumstances. Putting it out of his mind he scanned the camp, it was open ground between where he was now and his men so trouble had to be avoided otherwise they could be surrounded to quickly to respond. Bringing his sight back what he thought was his goal he stopped short noticing a small group of orcs trying to sneak in their clumsy dumbfounded way towrads the far edge of the clearing. 'What are the doing' he thought to himself....just then he realised what as they turned and fled back towards the centre of the camp shrieking to thier comrades. 'they must have found one of the senties bodies, damn!'. Every orc in the area rushed to get thier weapons ready with many more following the example. One great black skinned orc climed atop a small arcgery platform and drew a warhorn from the ground.
Feirhanith knowing that the main force of orcs on the battlefield must not be warned of their excursion desperatly looked for a solution. Turning to find his squire at his heals he said "take out the horn, we must not be given away!" Feirhanith's squire notched an arrow to his shortbow, letting it fly with enormus speed. it flew through the air towards the orc upon the platform, he notched another already knowing his first was not going to be good enough and let it fly also. The first arrow skirted across the front of the orcs crude helm imbedding itself in a nearby log, the orc pulling away from the horn to look to the source of the arrow. Feirhanith met the gaze of the orc for a brief second, the orc with what could be interpretted as shock upon his face. The link between the two was broken as the second arrow expertly shattered the orc's noise and travelling through into it's brain. it fell with a great thud upon the platform and that indicated the time to attack. Feirhanith and his honor guard stood drawing thier swords, Feirhainth putting his fingers to his lips gave a shrill whistle as the small group moved forward to meet the first of the enemy. As they fought, the ground began to shudder and the thundering of hooves grew. The orcs in the middle of the camp now stopped dead in thier tracks and looked towards the edge of the woods, suddenly men riding massive warhorses sped between the many trees taking the orcs by surprise as the great lances were leveled to face the enemy of humanity.

As Adept-Apprentice Kendil observed his master's work, his eyes widened a full three inches more as yet another flaming ball flew across the eveing sky. "Amazing" he whispered under his breath.
His master, the Archmage Lorand, payed no heed to his young apprentice, even though he could clearly hear. A thin smile emerged from his gnarled lips, "The boy would make a fine mage someday".

Slowly, Kendil turned away from the hunched old man and continued stirring the potion mixture in the cauldroun.

Lailyn, seeing the situation well under control though wanting to kill some orc scum anyway fired away with arrow after arrow. More often than not he hit but it became quickly hard to get a clear shot. He walked over to where a mage and his apprentice was standing. "Hi friend, do you have any part in this battle?" He asked the apprentice.

OoC: Ok, now I have a slightly better description of Lailyn. He's a 17 year old half-elf ranger with blue hair like a moon elf and bright green eyes. His weird features give him an average charisma (10 in D&D). He's 64 inches tall and his racial enemy is of course orcs.
