Using Nero to burn a DVD...

    Ok, so Jessica made a photo montage for her brother's upcoming wedding using Microsoft's Movie Maker program. Then she exported the movie from a .MSWMM to a .wmv. I took that .wmv movie and used Nero 7 to burn it on to a DVD, but I think somewhere along the line (maybe when Nero was converting the .wmv to a .mpeg before actually burning it on to the DVD) the file got messed up or something because when I played the movie on our TV, the movie froze up several times and the audio sounded horrible in certain places.

    I don't want to waste another DVD, so I'm hoping to get advise on this. I'm pretty sure that I can't burn a .MSWMM file to a DVD, but Movie Maker can't save to anything other than a .wmv file.

    Should I use another program besides nero to convert the .wmv to a .mpeg first, before trying to burn a DVD?

    Any advise would be appreciated. :rolling:

    Well, you can use DVD Santa to convert video files to dvd format... But I'm not sure that's what you are looking for (the files will be larger than before).

    Actually, the file size really doesn't matter because the .wmv file is only 55.5MB, and I have a 8.5GB DVD.

    Is DVD Santa free? I was hoping someone could direct me to a proper course of action with using Nero...but if there's another program out there that works better, and is free, I'm all ears. :rolling:

    Well, my girfriend uses Memories on TV and she got really nice presentations; she used about 100 pictures and made it like a movie with effects and music and all that funky stuff.
    I am having problems already with Nero again, that I will talk about in another post.

    I'm no expert, but I'd say that Nero is having a problem transcoding the files (for both of you) from the original format to MPEG2.

    I would suggest getting a standalone converter program to convert the files to MPEG2 so you can see the result before you attempt to create a DVD. That way at least you know what you are actually writing to the DVD.

    I think BTA is right, IIRC, it's a codec problem in Nero, but I'm not 100% sure.

    I also agree with the suggestion of getting a standalone program that might be better suited to do the conversion, and you can see the result as well before burning the DVD.

    I would find another program to make the movie to begin with. I've used Windows Movie Maker before, the only thing its good for is making .wmv's to play on another computer. I've tried several converting programs and they've all turned out to be crumby when played on a dvd player.
    I can't remember the names off the top of my head, but I've seen movie maker software at bestbuy for under $50.
    The problem is .wmv files are low quality to begin with. The various mpeg formats are of much higher quality.
