[IMG] @ Alexander The Great: Nidhogg was the snake wrapped around the roots of Yggdrasil (The World Tree). Cross mentioned it at the top of this page, I think.

@Icingdeath45: Most likely, yes. Apparently in FFVII there's also a ship or something called the 'Ragnarok', which was the Norse version of the apocalypse. As I haven't played any of the FF games I don't know whether this is true or not, but it's interesting nontheless.

More useless info: During the English Civil War, Prince Rupert (a Royalist commander) owned a small poodle, whom he called 'Boy' and would take into battle with him. The opposing Parliamentarian side believed that 'Boy' was evil and possessed magical powers, including the ability to speak English and the power to communitcate with the devil. The fools.

@bulges: they don't grow, the skins retracts because of moisture diminishing.
    @LB: lucky pigs ;)
@deathrabbit: I heard the same thing with the Russians instead of the Israelis, leading me to believe that the ultimate source of this story made the whole thing up.

The Americans, the Israelis, the Russians, a whole lotta wasted money and the pen:

    http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/spacepen.htm
    http://www.snopes.com/business/genius/spacepen.htm

The story is fiction, the morale (or lesson) is valid. I guess that's why the story is a success.

I believed that story too. :(

The Pelloponisian War (a civil war in ancient Greece between the Spartans and the Atheneans(sp?) that lasted for almost 30 years and in which many attrocities of war happened) started because Kerkyra(Corfu) refused to help its colony.

Epidamnos(a small town, colony of Corfu) was under attack and thus a messenger went to Corfu to ask for help. Corfu refused to send help and then the Epidamnian went to Korinthos to ask for help(since Corfu is the colony of Korinthos). The Korinthians sent troops to Epidamnos but Corfu didn't want Epidamnos to be saved and prevented the Korinthian troops from going there.
Then the Korinthians got really pissed off and thus a messenger from Corfu went to Athens to ask for help while the Korinthians went to Sparta to prevent such alliance between Corfu and Athens. And then started the Pelloponisian war(Athens vs. Sparta).

hmm... Yes. But 27 is close to 30 so that's why I wrote 30 and not 27. And that's why I also wrote *almost* 30.
But can you see the point? If Corfu had helped Epidamnos this war wouldn't have happened(at least not then).

GCSE examinations are 60% memory, 30% talent, 10% common sense. Brainpower does not come into at all.

Not entirely useless, but hey. :)

Someone in my office was just citing the "Pen v. Pencil" story and I had the joy of bursting his bubble with information I got right here on SP! Who said this isn't a handy addiction to have?

Epididymis belongs to the parts of the body which are called: "private parts"

Or, in other words, every second greek word sounds like something you don't want hear mentioned by your doctor. That's the price you pay for being the language of biology. :D ;) :p

Oooooooo, that's what it's going to mean.
Well, some Greek words are indeed used in biology.
