So I find myself the proud owner of a PS2. Joy.

Thing is, it lacks a memory card. Other thing is that those piece of crap are sold $30 for a ridiculous 8MB of space.

The PS2 has some frontal USB ports. I have a few USB thumb drives laying around. 1+1=2, so I thought, hell, using a flash drive as memory card would save me some cash, because there's no way in hell I'm paying $30 for a memory card.

Phoney obviously thought of that, because plugging one of the thumb drives did squat. I've wandered around the internet in search of whenever it's possible or not, and it has been a complete waste of time - at best cryptic instructions (who were Xbox related or were intended for PS2, but to read MP3s and crap like that), completly off-topic crap, and sites in German, or the crown jewel - Phoney fanboys telling people to go out there and spit $30 for the damn memory card.

I thought maybe someone here had an idea of whenever it can be done. BTW, my PS2 is brand-new and not hacked - I'm not exactly keen on the idea of a complete stranger playing in the innards of my PS2.

Sony placed some type of encryption on those things so that 3rd party manufacturers had to purchase some type of license to make them, so unless theirs some type of way to play around with a memory card or mod the ps2 I think you might have to buy a full 8mb of storage. Try ebay or something - these things have to be going cheap.

ps2 is a good piece of tech imho - plenty of good games, still well supported and tonnes of peripherals (eye toy, guitar hero, dance mats etc).

Head over to a used video game store. I got my card there for 4 bucks! If you are planning on playing any PS1 titlesl, make sure you nab a PS1 card, too, since you can't save PS1 games on a PS2 card. (I only paid 2 dollars for the PS1 card).
