Like a good girl, I checked out the NWN2 manual before installing and I noticed that it advised the players to shut down as many resource-hogging task as possible. Never having suffered from slowdowns and being lazy, I haven't bothered to investigate the matter before, but I'll really need all the power I can get for NWN2, so I was wondering whether someone here had a list of all the processes that are non-essential and can be terminated without a problem.

Well, start off by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL to bring up the Windows Task Manager, and then click on the Processes Tab for a list of all the processes currently running.

There are several sites online that list all the windows specific processes, and *most* of the 3rd party processes. Make sure you find the exact process match, because Malware programs like to imitate the safe/common processes, for example: the process 'ctfmon.exe' is a safe process belonging to Microsoft Office Suite, while 'ctfmon32.exe' is a process belonging to an advertising program by CoolWebSearch (malware), and should be removed immediately.

Here are a few sites that list the processes:
    http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/

    http://www.processlibrary.com/

    http://www.what-process.com/lists.aspx

If you still can't find the exact process you're looking for, try doing a google search for:
    "Windows Process" +XXXXXX

Keep the quotes, and replace the XXXXXXX with the process name and file extension. That will bring up sites that explain what it is. :D

If you have a lot of processes that start whenever Windows boots up, try reading 'Kitrax’s guide to the System Configuration Utility for WinXP!' :thumb: :rolling:

Here is a guide by a hobbyist called Black Viper. He played with XP a lot and wrote a guide. Some of the advise must be dated by now, since he shut down his original site. But enough people thought he had good advise that they saved his guide. Here is a link to one of them:

I've decided that NWN2 sucks, but still thanks a lot, guys. :)
