The thing I love about NWN is that I can download a mod to try out "concept characters". I'm not interested making "uber" PCs, as much as fun and different characters.

That being said, I'm thinking about trying a "thrown weapons specialist"...probably Rogue or Bard.

I know thrown weapons usually don't get much love in CRPGs. In general, they just don't do much damage, and they don't have the same options as other weapons. No PrC like Arcane Archer or Weapon Master. And I don't think they get specialized feats the way bow\crossbow users can.

But still, I plan to try it.

But here's my question...are there any magical thrown weapons that *return* after being thrown. Or is it a throw and it's gone situation?

Are there any options other that Darts, Throwing Axes, and Shuriken? (Any daggers or spears that can be thrown.)

(As a side note, I noticed that one magix shuriken has vampiric Regeneration...how does that work in a thrown weapon, I wonder?)

Any advice on how to maximize the potential of a thrown weapons "master"?

    :)

    Thanks!

To my knowledge there are no "returnable" weapons...I assume you're looking for a boomerang effect?

Darts, Axes and Shurikens are all that are throwable, althought there are some very nice axes to be found in game. It might be tough to be a "throwing specialist" however as you'll find yourself very limited on supply of enhanced weapons. Possibly you can take a feat of weapon focus in some sort of thrown weapon and it might increase the possibility of finding more of that type of weapon as random loot.

Vampiric means that upon hitting your target some portion of the HP damage done is returned to your HP's.

As far as being a thrown weapons "Master" the best thing to do would be to maximze your dexterity as thrown weapons are governed by that attribute just as with bows.

You might consider taking on the lowly sling. The nice thing about the sling is you can find enhanced bullets and enhanced slings so the benefits stack. Also a sling will factor in your strength to determine damage...at least I think so. I've never tested that out but a reputable source once told me that was the case.

Good luck! The only "bad" character is the one you don't try!

Halflings get +1 with thrown weapons (and slings). That, combined with the +2 to DEX and having rogue as a favored class, would make them a pretty good thrower. Take the usual ranged feats (Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot) and you'll do okay.

The trouble with axes is they're very heavy and only do 1-2 points more damage than darts which are very light.

There aren't any returning thrown weapons in NWN and to make matters worse your character doesn't automatically reload when he runs out of a stack of them. Archers and slingers don't have this problem.

While playing around a bit yesterday, I noticed that the Custom Character Mod I use, which has a forge that lets you make custom items, has a poroperty option called "boomereang". But it's greyed out and I didn't find an object that would let me assign that property. I wonder if it's actually possible to do that...
