As most of you guys have no doubt read and heard about many "ridiculous" American law cases including some recent ones, and we have all seen the Stella Awards as previously discussed here on SP.

How much we all laugh at the American legal system, to produce such silly verdicts? Well, they don't. At least not that silly.

For a more informed view on the true cases that come along I recommend the following: The True Stella Awards

I've certainly found it entertaining, informed and frustrating. The thing is at least the cases exist.

My hope for humanity has gone up a little, just because I found out all those cases, which have shown up on these boards before, were made up.

At least these new ones were just people being stupid. The government isn't paying them for it.

[IMG] Please do not get too carried away, my American friends.

Although those cases, so often quoted here and elsewhere to ridicule the American legal system, are untrue, there are still many ludicrous cases brought in the US [and nowadays in the UK I'm sure].

Do subscribe to the newsletter if you're interested. It at least highlights current and true cases with links, as well as carry readers comments to previously published issues.

[IMG] What exactly is the point of that website, short of harvesting e-mails of gullible people? What's the point of having a website where you collect e-mails and mail the supposed content of the site around? :hmm:

Most likely selling the mails to a few spam lists in the process.

Viking - thanks for the link. My father (a relatively intelligent chap) just sent me that old e-mail with the "Stella Awards" for probably the third time. I now have a link to send back with a disapproving "I thought you knew better" e-mail. Bravo.

    [IMG] Tal,

Well, I haven't received any spam and I've been receiving the email newsletter since issue 3, so I'll take their privacy statement on face value.

Did you read the sample newsletter? They only keep one issue on the site at any one time.

As for purpose? Well I guess highlight the need for tort reform in the US legal system would probably be one.

Finally it is actually rather a good read which brightens my usually dull Wednesday mornings with a little look at what is being processed through American courts. You just have to despair at what some people will do etc to earn a quick buck, get their own stupid ways, heap blame onto others and generally remove any need for personal responsibility.

Nah, I'm not talking in terms of its content, but presentation... On the bogus list on their site all they do is pull confirmed hoaxas off the other recognized site and say they didn't find anything on them either. Hm, not much work, that. But I'll take your word for their credibility. Due to the amount of spam I get, however, it's highly unlikely I'd give my mail anywhere online that I wasn't 100% sure it's safe.
