[IMG] A week ago on Friday, I went to the local mall to see the movie "The One" with a couple of my friends. It was mid-term time and I just needed a night out. I wasn't expecting much from a Jet Li action movie (I thought that Lethal Weapon 4 was alright but Romeo Must Die was a little weak). Wow, I was really surprised. The movie completely rocked! Yeah it had some corny scenes, but a little levity was needed as the story line was pretty serious.

To get a good idea of what the movie is like, imagine some of the best parts from the "Matrix" mixed with some of the best parts from "Highlander" and ba-boom! You've got "The One". I seriously recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys action fliks.

The soundtrack is great too, tunes stretching from Disturbed to Papa Roach...plenty of stuff to enjoy.

  2. Are you sure? All the reviews I read didn't recommend it. They said the movie ripped many ideas from Highlander and The Matrix. Well, because of the reviews, I didn't watch the movie. Maybe I'll go watch tomorrow eh?

    I thought it sucked.
i think mainly cos during the main fight scenes you can only see one Jet Li's face and the back of the double's head. kinda restrictive on the camera angles. the only chance of seeing em both is when they are kinda far apart, sorta. makes the fight angles restrictive. and i love highlander. this story's plot is horribly weak.

One thing you have to remember about the film is that it is absolutely rediculous and scientifically unsound. Soooo, just sit back and enjoy it.

One thing to remember is that reviewers pretty much always diss action movies. And every movie is somewhat of a take off of other movies in its genre. I seriously doubt that there is a single movie that has been made since the Matrix that doesn't rip part of the Matrix off. Bullet time, etc.

Another thing to remember is that there was a lot more background eye candy in The One than in the Matrix. Many of the special effects scenes from the matrix were filmed entirely with CG, but there was way too much physical movement in The One's fight scenes to allow the different camera angles...which I thought were still pretty good.

Hey, don't take my word for it. You can always wait until it comes out on video. Just tryin' to put my 2 cents in.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Rock supposed to do "The One" 'til he decided to do The Mummy 2 and the Scorpion King instead?

Also, as an aside, Jet Li turned down Chow Yun Fat's role in Crouching Tiger, hidden Dragon because Jet Li promised his wife he wouldn't do movies while she was pregnant.
