    TAP or Temporary Auto Pilot purports to semi-autonomouly control the vehicle while being monitored by the driver. It will maintain safe distances to other vehicles, keep the car centered in the lane and somehow obey speed limits. All at up to 80 mph.

    Sounds interesting, but it can't be cheap with camera, radar, laser scanner, ultrasonic sensors etc.

    I think it'd be a hoot to try out, but I doubt I'd be willing to pay much extra for it.

    What do you think?

    It's an interesting development. I enjoy driving my car and so would not normally be interested in this, but I can certainly imagine that if I'd have to drive to work by car each day instead of by bicycle, I would appreciate an auto-pilot in the car.

    Reading the paper or a book while being driven to work, or continueing your sleep in the car sounds like a pretty good idea.
