So, the new James Bond has been confirmed as Daniel Craig!

TBH, I am actually very happy that this man will be playing Jamesy ;) . He's an excellent actor, which is evident in the film Layer Cake (which was released this year through a British movie company - I can't remember the name of the company). I'm glad that it won't be Eric Bana - who was the favourite - and that they will be using a good old fashioned British actor ( we do it best, and you know it ;) ).

I will give my full opinion later on, but I do have one thing to say. He's blonde!!! I don't have a link, but I'm sure you will find some info if you google his name. Please give me your opinions on the new Bond, and maybe, if you disagree on the choice of actor, who you think should have been the next Bond.

Well, he's bound to be better than Roger Moore!

I think Hugh Jackman was born for the role but his other engagemants prevented him from doing so. My next choice would have been Clive Owen but Daniel Craig isn't too shabby either. Casino Royale is the next film (a remake of the terrible sixties spoof with David Niven and Peter Sellers) and I hope they go back to the edgy, hitman, cruel style Bond Fleming portrayed in his books. If they do, then Craig will be amazing in the role.

I don't know I would have chosen to play James Bond but it certainly wouldn't have been Daniel Craig.

They can always dye his hair so his being blond isn't that much of a problem. However, the only film I can recall seeing him in was Tomb Raider and he certainly didn't come across as someone who would make a good James Bond.

Actually, apart from Connery and Lazenby I have never really been a big fan of any of their choices to play James Bond.

Edit: OH DEAR GOD! I just read a plot description and it says that they will be playing Texas Holdem.

Anyone who can give Sienna Miller a bit of the old 'how's your father', makes a good James Bond if you ask me.
    Fair play to him.

    Nice one, Barmy. :thumb:

I did find it kind of funny that Sienna Miller got top billing in Layer Cake when she was in the movie for all of, what, 2 minutes? :shake:

I can't believe nobody considered Sean Bean for the role. To me, he'd make the best Bond. He has the smoothest Brit accent I've ever heard, and he certainly has enough star power by now. Besides, he deserves to make the leap from villain/sidekick to leading man. Some might say "but he played Janus in Goldeneye." But I don't really care. He would've been great.

As for Craig - I'm not sure. He may surprise me, but I think he has an odd shaped head. He doesn't seem a natural fit to me.

DR, Sean Bean is my favourite actor, no doubt about it, and he's a sexy beast ;) . Check out his Sharpe series if you like his acting.

But, as you say, he was Janus and it wouldn't look right (even if the american dude from Goldeneye was a villain in a Timothy Dalton Bond movie :p )

 Even the Aussy who played Bond for only one film looked better than this guy.

Don't forget he was in 'The Mother'. A movie where he was involved in a sex scene with an elderly woman. If I watch the new Bond, the picture of him grabbing that old woman around the hips will play in my mind...

Kind of like the guy in Batman Begins (he was in that stupid 'flexing' sex scene in American Psycho).

Not the most handsome guy, and James Bond has always been handsome, but Craig isn't that bad of an actor. Clive Owen would have been awful, but Sean Bean would have been sweeet as a Bond (although he's already played a bad guy in a Bond movie, I'm not sure that they would like casting him as Bond now)

Um. Not in Fleming's original novels... a gritty, hard-nosed assassin rather than a smooth talking 'ladykiller' was the Bond of the first novel, Casino Royale (nice timing :) )

I think Craig may pull it - the appearance changes in the 'tribute' photo help, but if he does a decent acting job, I won't CARE if he's blond (btw so's Sean :p )

And I'm annoyed by the change of pivotal game from Chemin de Fer to Texas 'Hold'em' poker, but gotta keep current (likely he'll also have a £1,000,000 bankroll to foil the villian, instead of £100,000)

I'm wondering about something in the story that's a bit of a spoiler...

David Craig looks like David Niven (Sir James Bond from Casino Royale) and Robert Vaughn (Napoleon Solo, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) had a baby.

Speaking of Roger Moore, he only gets shafted as 007 by some because he's the oldest to start his Bond-age movie career at 57, imo.

I would say that Moore isn't as well regarded due to the somewhat excessive level of goofiness of the Bond films that he starred in.

I suppose the blame should be shared with the writers, directors, and producers but most people put the blame solely on Moore's shoulders.

There IS that JSBB, but for me Sir Roger will always be Simon Templar to me... *shrug* Just as it was hard to not see 'Remington Steele' when Pierce Brosnan took up the 007 designation.

I guess the idea was to take a guy who was not a known face so he would be known as Bond. Pierce Brosnan would always be known first as 'Remington Steele' and then as 'James Bond'. Still, couldn't they have taken a guy who was not so damn ugly  Clive Owen really would have been a better choice. :(
