I have never tried soloing, but I think most people here would say a fighter/mage/thief is the best choise.

I think soloing in IWD is pretty pointless. You get stuck in a lot of places, and you must have a thief (especially in Dragon's Eye), and a mage. So, yes, I would think a F/M/T is the obvious choice.

    Yeah, FMT is the soloer.

You'd be really hard pressed in a couple of areas without a thief, or at least a 'find traps' so you could walk around the few that are walk-around-able.

FMC can do it, but you'll use the bejesus out of 'knock' and 'find traps'. I don't think you'd last long with a bard or paladin. You might be able to with a bard, but I don't know exactly what they can dual class to.

Bards can't dual class, but it would be a challenge flyin' solo with a Bard. As mentioned above, a F/M/T is your best choice. An Elven M/T or F/C could be an interesting choice if you want a real challenge.

well my own most interesting char is Drizzt(:p)lvl 16 ranger dual wielding moonblade and frostbrand.
I think that the ranger is the best char for solo'ing
