Greetings and salutations from one of the remaining conservatives here. Since most of my brethren have decided to move on, I wanted to thank all of you who prefer debate to be one sided. Now, you can get together, slap each other on the back and agree without any interference.

    Novel form of debate, that!

To think, all it would have taken to preserve real debate was toning down the rhetoric. For instance, not stating that I have the heart of a killer (especially since it is well known to the long time posters, including the person who made the statement, that my brother was murdered).

I agree with Laches, there is a lack of respect here.

Well, you've got your club, enjoy it.

    Let the flames begin!

What is your definition of a 'conservative'?

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Darkwolf is back (well, kind of), Snookie, Hackenslash, and Grey don't appear to be going anywhere. Shralp will never be really "gone." BTA leans fairly right as well. But you're right - the rhetoric here does get a bit...shall we say, "salty" at times.

Bear in mind the polarizing culture of American politics at the moment, and the immense international distrust in the Bush administration (as we are a very international crowd) to this as well. Disliking Bush doesn't really make one a liberal (though it helps!).

I think distaste for the Bush administration trumps Liberalism, hands down IMO. If Clinton were still president, and he was pissing off the world the same way Bush and Co. are, I don't think you'd be calling SP the "Conservative Club" because of all the rants about Clinton that would appear here. Myself included, as it's not the ideology I can't stomach, it's the conduct, practices and policies.

Do you think that's a fair assertion, Jack?

Well I took a school political party test, turns out I'm a conservative. But I always feel like a liberal, so...maybe I'm a moderate. Besides I just debate for the sake of debating.

For god's sake Jack..... Another "poor little me" post. Sorry, but these whining, poking fingers and "woe is me" posts are getting so tiring to read, it's actually getting quite pathetic. Why the hell can't everyone grow up and stop the WHINING??? If you don't like it here, LEAVE. If you like it here, but just don't like the types of debate in the AoDA, FIND ANOTHER FORUM. I'd say you made your point before, why continue with posts like this? Are you THAT starved for attention?

Well, the fact that this board is leaning heavily to the left (with American standards) isnt very surprising. There are many Europeans here. As I have said before without much sucess so is the European political scene more divided between socialist and conservative/liberal blocks, thats right, liberals and conservatives have here joined forces against the socialists. This means, amongst other things that by European standards what is considered "left" or liberal in the US is shared by most parties even those on the right side of the European scale. The democratic party would in Europe be a right-wing allied with the conservatives. Thus almost all Europeans, even if they are leaning to the right by their standards are quite far to the left by American standards. In Europe the schism is more between liberalism and socialism than between liberalism and conservatism, with the European conservative being more or less pushed to the side as they dont have enough popular support to stand on their own. Conservatives as the American republican party exists here but they are a small percentage most of the time and tends to stick to the back of the liberals.

Now the point of this rant was that as this is an international board, with many Europeans, and that Europeans are by American standards "liberal" or "left" by default as the schism here is between socialism and liberalism it is not strange that a conservative American feels isolated. I know however that many of us Europeans (not I though) identifies themselves as right leaning, heck even a tad conservative but the standards are so different that even those appear to a conservative American to be far left-wing nutcase. One of the conservative Americans most ardent opponents here on the boards are according to himself and by European standards quite far to the right.

This isn't about making sure only one side of the debate gets the floor 100% of the time. Never was, never will be.

The reason warnings have been given to, for example, Darkwolf and Shralp, is because their posts violated the rules as described in the AoDA sticky. We checked their posts against those rules before we commented. It wasn't because in our eyes, supporting Bush or being a conservative was in itself a sin that deserved sanction.

    Case in point ...

BTA is decidedly conservative, and a supporter of U.S. foreign policy. At least that's what I gather from his numerous posts in the AoDA. Yet you don't see Tal sanctioning him, for the very reason that his posts observe the AoDA rules. Heck, he's enough of an authority on the rules that he's an administrator.

I'm not sure where you're getting this, "SP is anti-conservative or anti-Bush" from. I can only deduce that it comes from a very selective reading of what goes on here, and often out of context unless I'm mistaken.

You're still welcome to post your opinions here, as long as its in the rules. People who hold different opinions from you are also subject to the rules. If they break them, you're welcome to let us know about it, and we'll deal with it.

Anyway, this thread might beckon to others to engage in yet another lengthy debate on how the AoDA is moderated. So ...

EDIT: In response to your comments in the other thread. In essence, your accusation is that SP has turned into a "liberal only, conservatives out" club. In the background are many unfortunate posts where, which most of us are well aware of, some conservative posters have been sanctioned for not abiding by the AoDA rules, where some have expressed dissatisfaction with how mods/admins are running SP, and where those same conservatives feel the need to publicly announce their departures. Of course, our responses are well known as well. As such, I cannot help but interpret this thread as a thinly veiled accusation that the liberal SP posters are being favoured, and that concomitantly the conservative posters are being nudged out the door. It just doesn't bear out.
