Well from everything I've heard the new king is going to follow the policies of the old king. He has practically ruled the country for some time now so this is really an official declaration of something that has been a fact for quite some time. Saudi Arabia is of course very important being the biggest oil producer in the world but as long as the royal family remains popular enough not to invoke serious riots and the US backs up the country there should be little fear of anything drastic happening in Saudi Arabia under the reign of the new king.

Only for a few more decades, until their oilwells run dry. After that, we'll see how many friends they REALLY have, and i have a gut feeling it won't be a large gathering. :D

He actually came a visited the Wild Animal Park this past spring when he was still a prince.
He was kinda an arse to be honest. We brought out several animals for him to see. He didn't like the aardvark. He said it smelled and to put it back and bring out something else.
We couldn't talk to anyone in his entourage except for himself. We had to look at him the whole time we talked, and there were like 20 in his group. One of his body guards kept walking off, but we couldn't tell him not to. So one of the educators went and stood in front of him. It was funny because he was this huge bodyguard. Our educator was this tiny woman, but he stopped!

Heh, royalty and their caprices :) Oh well, at least you can say you've seen the Saudi king...
Aside from that, there doesn't seem to be as much noise about him as there could be, considering the oil crisis, the instability in the region and the fundamentalists in Saudi Arabia itself. It could be me being a bit paranoid, but this might indicate he is a little headstrong, to say the least - if he were such a nice guy, we'd be let to know.
