This is probably a somewhat obscure reference, but if it helps even one person it will be worth it.

If you have a pedestrian level PC and use AVG Free 2011 (or the non-free version too, I assume) and your streaming video playback (Youtube etc.) is choppy, disable AVG's Identity Protection feature.

If you bring up the task manager, you may see in the active processes tab that AVGIDSAgent.exe is using up to 70% of your CPU, while possibly fluctuating wildly (4%, 65%, 8%, 40%, 69%, 1% etc.). I'm assuming that on low end PCs, this is apparently enough to make processing streaming video difficult.

Skip the usual fruitless updating of drivers, 'surefire' registry edits that don't work, and other bizarre [SOLVED!] tech forum thread guaranteed fixes that only make things worse. Killing AVG's Identity Protection fixes the issue RIGHT NOW - no reboots necessary, not even a relaunch of your browser. It also seems to make the interwebs in general noticeably more frisky.

I'm not sure what AVG's Identity Protection really does, but I sort of suspect that no one is going to die from not having it running. It's an optional feature at installation, after all. So, if you value your time spent goofing off at work watching Youtube or your favorite porno site and can't be hampered by choppy video, kill this thing and never look back. :)

    • AVG App | Tools | Advanced settings ... | Identity Protection | Activate Identity Protection - untick!
    Also,
    • AVG App | Tools | Advanced settings ... | Ignore faulty conditions | Identity Protection - tick! (so that AVG doesn't give you the something's wrong! yellow exclamation point in the system tray)
    Cheers!

Do you mean the Identity Protection part, specifically? You can remove that completely by re-running the installation utility and deselecting the ID Protection option at install, but that's really not necessary. Just deactivate it as described in post 1.

If you mean AVG itself ... Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs?

I mean the whole thing. This is just weird, I didn't install it and it requires me to get an Uninstall Key.
I have already tried at least 4 times to uninstall it through the Add or Remove Programs with the Uninstall Key they supplied but the d@mn thing is still there.

Yeah, that doesn't sound right. You should run a virus scan (using whatever anti-virus software you actually have installed) and a Malwarebytes scan and see what comes up.

If it is the virus varient you will have a proxy on internet explorer and will want to remove that as well. SO that you can install and update a real anti virus program
