    Doesn't help that Trump has a cult of personality in whose eyes he can do no wrong. He is after all saving America from all the undesirables. And since he's leveraging on Elon's behalf, that must surely mean that Elon is a visionary tech who's going to make the world a better place too. Yowzers ...

    True, there have been a lot of "firsts" with Trump, but yes, using the White House as a backdrop for your friend's car sale is an unprecedented low in the history of the US. That is, at least to my knowledge, no president in the history of the US has ever shown such disrespect for what the building represents as a symbol. Setting completely aside the fact that Trump is apparently quite happy to reduce the POTUS office to a car dealership for Elon's benefit.

    I’m European and the way the US elections go are perplexing. Effectively you can buy yourself a president and a position within the government and it seems everyone is okay with that. How can the US be regarded as the epitomy of the free world while the president can be bought?
