    The Broodmother.

I'm not entering this fight in the best of states. My party is me (rogue), Shale, Zevran and that dwarf whose name I forget, so I lack any magic support, and I can't get any due to there being zero mages in my entourage. I have maybe 7 of the weakest health poultices, and I think 2 of the strongest. If necessary I can go back and get more, but that requires a 10 minute walk back to the area transition, and I'd really rather not.

If anyone can offer any strategies for this, then that would be just super.

Chances are, you've mastered the situation already, but here's some advice, anyway:
I had to reload several times as well (hard difficulty), so here's my tactic that did it:
Stay as far away from the main demon as possible, so that her beams possibly won't reach you. As soon as possible, take her tentacles out first, use focus fire to take them out one by one. Destroy other helpers the same way.
Go for the demon only when she's left alone.
at different stages, she will summon new minions,
so back again, take them out, as before, then go for her again.

    P.S.
If Zevran has Momentum, use it.

Ranged attacks can be quite effective in that fight.

    I agree with Cara.

The key is not paying attention to the tentacles. At the back of the caves, there is a big step stone where you can stand and the tentacles don't reach to you. The key then is to arm all your party members with ranged weapons and let them rip on the Broodmother. At two points in the fight, some darkspawn will come to fight, so revert to melee weapons and bash away.

I think it's best to have a healer because of the acid spit the Broodmother throws at you. I had Wynne as well as Lelianna and Oghren (my character is a sword and shield champion). I had found enough bows to equip everyone.

Just played it for the first time since making that post and you were all so right - ranged was the way to go. :) Job done, thanks a lot!

The best thing to do when stuck like this is to take a break, getting all riled up and frustrated doesn't help.

If you have a mage in your party cast spells like death cloud, blizzard, tempest, and Inferno on the enemy itself. She will fall. Once she goes the tentacles go so killing her quick should be a priority.
