I'm stuck on the bottom level of Durlag's tower (the one with Durlag himself) and I can't go further. I know you're supposed to solve some questions about Durlag's past, then go talk to Durlag who'll open a way to the demon knight (I've played through the tower two times before this) but now I can't get anywhere? I've explored the whole area and clicked on the bed which is past the rune carpet. This teleported me to four statues. After I answered their question Durlag told me I'm not ready yet. The throne in the slime area won't let me any further nor does talking to the stone golem near the spiders achieve anything. Have I missed something? I have the bone wardstone (from the room with the helmed horrors) and the compass wardstone (from the named ghoul in a hidden part of the slime area) What now?

Sorry it's a long time since I played through that area (or that game at all). I do remember it being a bit tricky though. All I can recommend is downloading some of the hints/walkthroughs/guides available at this site. There are a few for ToSC one of which is very comprehensive (The Complete Guide to Baldur's Gate & Tales of the Sword Coast v2.9). Anyway, this guide and others can be found at:

Hopefully though someone will pop in with a qucik answer. Fingers crossed :)

Come on, have mercy with the fellow! The worst thing I know is to be directed to the walkthroughs if I ask of something. The walkthroughs are more cheating than asking here, and who wants to cheat?

Won't help. It simply states that doing what I have done should get me forward...

Well I decided to forget it and proceed forward. As this was my last quest I went after Sarevok. After completing that labyrinth under the thieves' guild I tried to enter the undercity (naturally). Well at this point the game teleported me to Ulgoth's Beard! I even went through that incredibly boring labyrinth again, but when I tried to enter the undercity, it was off to Ulgoth's Beard again! Apparently I can't finish the game before I've done all the TotSC quests... Made me pretty furious and I hope there won't be anymore games where you are *forced* to do all unimportant sidequests unless you want to. Ok, so programming the game so that your final save takes you to Ulgoth's Beard so that you can do the additional quests is a good idea, but this is just plain idiocy.

    Sorry for my ranting...

You did Durlag's Tower last? I'm struggling my way through it now without even have done the bandit camp yet. All fellows are level 7 (almost), and it is kind of hard. But the most annoying thing is inventory space. I must be extremly money-loving (playing Kagain has a bad effect on me), because even with over 40k gold I have trouble leaving a short sword +1 behind.

Mollusken, I fully agree with your comment above that a quick answer is usually infinately preferable to being directed to a walkthrough. Unfortunately, I didn't know of any quick answer to the problem (I hoped this was clearly implied in my post). Therefore I took the view that providing a link to somewhere that might provide help was a positive thing to do, especially as no one else had tried to give any help at all.

Still it saddens me that anyone from these boards would think that I would do anything other than try to be helpful. Perhaps I should have taken your approach and offered no help at all in my reply :(

I am sad to say that I could find nothing to help with your problem. There are lots of posts about problems with getting to Ulgoth Beard but none about your situation (that I can find anyway). In desperation, all I can suggest is that you check you have all of the latest patches installed because it does sound like a bug. The latest patches can be found here:

Well I just exported my character and proceeded to BG2 as planned, as I had almost reached the exp cap anyway. Still, not too fun :( I'll try re-installing and using the patches for my fallen paladin.
