Spelljammer ship in the underdark, how?

    How did a spelljammer ship, especially an eye tyrant ship, ever get into the underdark in the first place? I managed to dig up my old Realmspace book and it doesn't say anything about the underdark in it.

    This is fantasy -- why does it need to make sense?

    Besides, it's probably there because one of the programmers thought it would be 'cool.'

    Spelljammer ships can go anywhere. Sure, they'd have to make a path so it could go down there (or use some magic like Passwall or plane-jumping), but it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

    It is a spelljammer ship after all...in the movie you get when you try to sail off with the Pirate Lord's ship, a spelljammer ship closes in on you, and it's flying right above the water... :eek:

    Besides the Githyankii(sp) are a magical race, so it makes sense that they could somehow teleport their ship underground. :rolling:

    Not to mention that the Githyanki are frequent visitors to the Underdark, considering their fierce raicail hatred for the Mind Flayers...

    Hmm... I don't really remember that part really well, aside that you have to aske the Gith to tell you about the ship, but is it the same that you encountered at the pirate ship?
    Since the same Gthyankis are at least in the illithid city.

    Githyanki travel planes and especially the astral plane witch connects to every part of the material plane. Thus it would be no feat for them to show up in the underdark. Remember how they got out of the Illithid city. Sure bringing in a spelljammer ship might be a little more troublesome but still.

    [​IMG] Quick clarification: nl255 was talking in particular about the eye tyrant ship. You've all made the Githyanki possibility quite clear now, but haven't yet commented on the eye tyrant. (Remember the one Phaere wants you to kill for its blood? She also says it came in on a Spelljammer ship.) Discuss. :rolling:

    Maybe they were there to get supplies for an up-comming rescue mission for thier Githyanki brothers that were being enslaved by the Mind Flayers.

    Or maybe one of the game designers got a little *too* creative... :rolleyes: :rolling:
