Can you use character soundsets from other IE games (especially IWD, which we have) in BG1? My wife is frustrated with the extreme lack of choice, and I don't know enough about modding the game to do anything to help.

The BG2 ones are easy to import. Just grab the wav files from "BGII-SoA\sounds" and dump them into "Baldur's Gate\sounds" (preferably copy+paste, and don't forget to rename the wav files of your pre-existing female soundsets in BG to something different or they'll get overwritten). The sounds that don't come up in BG that come up in BGII will just be ignored as improperly named files. That should give you five more for each gender, and keep in mind that custom soundsets can be downloaded into "Baldur's Gate\sounds" the same way as you would do for BGII. By now you should have more voices than you handle. :heh:

Problem: We do not have Baldur's Gate II, but we do have IWD.

:( Well, you can still download (PPG has a few links to soundset sites and SP has some stuff too), but I don't know enough about IWD to say for sure.

You can use Icewind Dale Voice Pack Converter. It works with IWD/IWDII and BG2, but it´s simple edit it to work with BG1 as well.
Download Sound Converter and unzip it. Then edit file IWD1 sound converter.bat (right click on it and choose edit).
Find word BG2Main.exe and change it to BGMain.exe, then save it and run it.
