What a game! And i thought BG had it all. I can't remember the last time when i had so fun playing a crpg. Hmm maybe Death Knights of Krynn man that was awesome (anyone remember?) :). Oh and also Daggerfall. Bugridden as it was, the best crpg of its time where you didn't have to follow any plot at all.

As for the NPCs in BG2, I think the evil characters are more appealing which created some problems for my CG Illusionist. Also no pure thief class NPCs ? Yoshimo well.. you know. And Khalid was a great loss for me I had somehow gotten attached to his character. "better part of valor" :) And where in the nine hells is Kivan :) Well at least they've got my fav NPC Viconia from BG.
"Male! Fetch me somethings to eat" hehe though she doesn't use that quote anymore.

I liked Imoen a lot in BG however in BG2 she duals into a mage which i don't have need for and goes into a psychosomatic manic depression. She wasn't appealing anymore.

    **EDIT**

I think the characters die too often (uhmm or do i just play this game terrible) up to the point where resurrection was a casual daily task. Okay I might have exaggerated it a bit but there are some really tough challenges. Especially when you can't prepeare for a battle beforehand and poor aerie gets torn into pieces.

I also think the sorcerer class was quite strong compared to wizards. Though somewhere in the manual it mentions them being godly creatures or so.

Awesome graphics, sounds (though limited), spells. Though I would have appreciated the phantasmal force spells.

Also great site sorcerers.net. Thanks for all the info.

[IMG] Kivan does make an appearance later in the game, but he's not a joinable NPC unfortunately. SPOILER:

He shows up with Safana, too, who also can't join. As far as playing experience goes, I have to say I preferred BG1! BG2 rocks, though. Very well executed and a blast to play.
I think I like BG1 better due to my own computer game innocence, other than Descent 1 it was the only PC game I ever played at the time I played through it, and I picked it up with my computer when I bought it. Little did I know it would return me to the FR world I spent so much PnP time in years ago. Then came IWD, BG2, HOW and ToL. Overload. I'm back to the Descent series for a while!

That's not Kivan you meet with Safana, That's Coran. As far as I know Kivan is a no show in BG2.

However Kivan could fit well in the game. His goal in BG was to deal with Tazok, who murdered his wife. If Kivan had known that Tazok would return in BG2, Kivan had also returned in BG2.
