Let me assume your question is: 'what character should I choose?'

If this is the case, I assure you that a monk or a fighter/mage/thief are very nice for soloing.

If you take the monk, you might want to take Minsc along in the Irenicus' Dungeon, since it is harder at lower levels.

If you choose instead the F/M/T, be sure to install the experience cap remover - I don't consider it cheating, it just lets you become something like a God...

[IMG] The question you have to ask yourself is why you want to solo.
If your answer is that you want to see if you can do it, or to see how difficult it is, then removing the xp cap is counterproductive since it makes it easier.

With ToB installed things are different since you get to so much higher levels, but if you want to solo SoA with ToB installed all you have to do is not push the level up button once you reach 2,950,000 xp (the SoA xp limit).

Soloing is a very interesting experience and certainly worth doing. A few of the characters I've done it with are:
    - Berserker/Mage (my first solo)
    - Wizard Slayer ("Gloin Bonehead")
    - Monk (without using any magic items)
    - Sorcerer
    - F/T ("Sarah Stubbletoe")
    - F/M/T ("Speed" solo)

Some of these are clearly easier than others. :)

I soloed with a Kensai dualled to a mage, and found the experience most rewarding.
I would have soloed with a sorcerer or pure mage but felt I needed to be able to defend myself.
Oh, and I love those Katanas - they are built for a Kensai/mage. IIRC I dualled at around 12th level. Its quite hard for a while if you decide to dual class since you don't have those other class abilities. But hey, thats the fun part.

I think the best solo class is either an Elven Fighter/Mage or Berzerker/Cleric. A shapeshifter with amazing stats might work well too.

the other day i had just finished my first solo witch was hard at first but i did it with a half-elf C/R they are pretty easy once you get to around naila's castle because you can use the hide in shadows to sneak up on the enimes.
