[IMG] Actually, some of us suspected already, but we could not be sure. But I'm surprised that it was Marty who felt the need to pretend, while race baiting us. Disappointed.

[IMG] So that we don't derail the Norwegian psycho thread, anyone who wants to express their opinion about sock puppets in general or specifically, do it here.

Haha I made it easy enough for Tal to figure out, I didnt even change My ISP locale. I could have used the work server but that would have been even weirder. A nice black southern gentleman in kuwait?
For the record rg58 is in fact Randall George Maness, my former father-in-law, & one of the greatest men I have ever known. Everything about him is his history, straight from his mouth over the last 8 years that it has been my pleasure to know him. I was back in the world & felt like messing with the old crew.
But R&R is almost over, so I gotta go. Be back in 6-8 months for a little more excitement if I'm still around.
    Peace out!

Seriously, everybody stay safe, even ragusa :)

You know, your hand can pretend to be something it's not merely by putting a sock over it... maybe adding some buttons for eyes... you get the idea I'm sure. :)

Aren't we all sock puppets here? No one uses their real names and could pretent to be anyone they want.

Well for there to be a sock "puppet" there needs to be a puppeteer, so you would have to have multiple identities each pretending to not being affiliated with each other.

I've been conning you guys this whole time. I'm a 63 year old lesbian who is a card carrying member of the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada who has spent the last 10 years in a federal penitentiary on bestiality charges. And I had you all fooled!

This is why I don't believe any of you actually exist, until I make independent verifications. Sometimes, even then, it could be pretty dodgy (hired actors!)

[IMG] Considering the lesbians I know I wouldn't be surprised :p

I think I'm pretty much the same online as I am offline, only time I'm not is in a designated RPG.

I've seen sock puppets before often to cruel results on other sites and particularly games, I think it's a shame when someone feels the need to string people, I suppose it is a curiosity in sorts.

This scenario is fairly bizarre to me... it really takes "roleplaying games" to a whole different level.

I don't think I would ever have the time or inclination to "fool" people into thinking I am something other than I am. I definitely limit the information that I share about myself online -- as should everyone -- but good, bad or indifferent, what I do choose to share is true.

    Or is it??

The watchdog tenacity of people like Taluntain notwithstanding, the relative difficulty of a feat like this should indicate how impressed we are by it. In other words, if in a world where the only thing that exists is written text you manage to 'convince' people (as if they are really looking at your text with a deeply scrutinizing eye anyway) that you are identity b instead of identity a, we should not really be terribly impressed. Any of us could pretty much do it at any time, for a while, unless you have absolutely zero ability to deceive. It's not like you have to do it in person, where it actually is difficult, or 'live' the identity or anything like that.

It's kind of like that particular brand of person who specializes in telling you believable lies ("My god - your car is being towed!") and then congratulates themselves on their cleverness while mocking your 'foolishness' if you credit their story for even a moment. Goodie for you, you clever rascal!

I had no idea that the Canadien prison system allowed internet access. Interesting.

I tend to take most personalities on the internet with a grain of salt. I usually disregard arguments such as "I know this because in real life I'm X" because there is no way of making sure if that statement is true in any shape or form. Anonymity makes a lot of people pathological liars. Still it's not awfully important since I don't really care what people whom I really don't know do in their real life nor do I understand the reasons why some choose to troll/pretend, but to me personally, it's of little consequence.

I'm actually under the impression that in Finnish prisons the inmates often have at least limited internet access. I'm not entirely sure how free/supervised it is but I imagine it's still quite limited.
